just heard on the radio (KFI 640am Los Angeles) that they believe he's driving a maroon pick up truck with some kind of bumper sticker on the back like "I'd rather be flying delta." Can't find any info online yet.

But doesn't dominatating the national news also tend to dilute the effectiveness of Amber alerts?

Maybe some day, but not yet. I understand where you are coming from but there is a certain usefulness in making the amber alert a nation-wide system. It doesn't take very long for a car to get out of say, california, and up into Nevada, then Wyoming... then Indiana. It's only a matter of hours.

The system still works. When it is a problem, then that needs to be dealt with, but it's not a problem yet.

Where you and I probably agree is that so-called "abductions" by mothers or fathers in the course of a nasty custody battle sometimes get lumped into the mix. So far, the "amber alert" system specifically does not include these incidents. It is completely fair to say that the children in these cases are not at immediate risk in the same way as a kidnapping by a stranger. As long as that criteria remains, and given that these cases remain rare enough to remain newsworthy... it seems then to me that it is time and energy well spent.

So why does the rest of the country have to waste bandwith about it? Everytime a child from California gets kidnapped, it dominates the news all over the country.

Uh, let me guess, your from Texas?

I could see issuing an Amber Alert in those nasty custody battles that involve a parent from another country, ie: Saudi Arabia, trying to flee with the kids.

Wonderful news.....prayers work and I for one am happy they put out the Amber Alert. I would never ever consider it an imposition or unnecessary.

I think it is a great system, and maybe someone will think twice before abducting a child, knowing the child's face could be plastered all over the country. It just makes it that much harder for the crimminal to get away with such things. And maybe some of these local cable stations, could run such alerts during the day. I certainly would tune in a couple of times a day to see who may be missing.

From FoxNews:

Police: Missing California Girl Found

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A 5-year-old girl who was reported missing early Monday has been found in Utah, police said.

An Amber Alert (search) had been issued for Anabella Jade Clark, who was apparently taken from her home by 48-year-old Charles William Mix.

Clark was found with Mix in Richfield, Utah (search), at around 4 p.m., a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. The girl appeared to be in good health, the spokesman said, and Mix was taken into police custody.

Deputy chief of police in Riverside Andy Pytlak said Utah authorities were notified of the pair's whereabouts after a witness recognized a truck described in the Amber Alert. Mix had been driving a truck he'd stolen from his boss at a Chino, Calif., airport, Pytlak said.

Pytlak described Mix as a family friend, and said a team from Riverside was headed to Richfield to help Utah police in the investigation. He said it was uncertain what Mix's motive was in taking the girl.

Clark had disappeared from her home between 1:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m Monday morning. The abduction alert issued by police did not detail the circumstances of the disappearance.

Mix was described in the alert as white, with long, gray, shoulder-length hair and a black and gray beard.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

The national media doesn't have to pick it up...complain to them. The wanted vehicle was found in less than an hour, btw. I would say the system works. But doesn't dominatating the national news also tend to dilute the effectiveness of Amber alerts?
