Question: Why are parts of the US Const. crossed out/italicized?

Hello FReepers,

Hopefully one of you can help me out... I've been doing some research on the Constitution (yes, believe it or not, there actually IS one that some of us on the Right like to at least try to adhere to)... Anyway, I'm interested in knowing why certain parts of the Constitution are crossed out/italicized and I'd appreciate a link to any online version of the Const. that displays such crossouts/italics.

By the way, if you'd like a paper copy of the Constitution that has the original text, all the amendments, proposed amendments that failed to ba adopted, a bunch of history, etc., call your Congresscritter and ask. They can/will send it to you for free. There a short version (mostly just the text that fits in your pocket, and a longer version with all the above that's booklet size.

The italics were used to emphasize certain parts that the framers thought were very important.

The cross-outs are there because Alexander Hamilton's laptop crashed and nobody else had brought a computer with them (most people used big, cumbersome, antique desktop machines in those days). Ironically, tradition has it that Benjamin Franklin got Hamilton's computer working by booting it from an old DOS floppy just minutes after the final version was signed. That floppy is on display in the Smithsonian, I believe.

Thus, the copy everyone signed was from a draft printout that had been hand-edited.

I think that one of the essential amendments that simply vanished without any debate-was the one that prohibited folks from taking office with foreign titles-that includes anyone with the title of "Esquire"-among others-like "Sir"-as in a knight designation. I believe that this amendment was the thirteenth-which was replaced with the slavery amendment. By "losing" this amendment-it allowed the Bank of England to thoroughly infilitrate American politics-and create a society forever in debt to the Bank of England.

I personally despise titles of nobility-because they confer a status of superiority-I believe all folks were created equal. If there are any lawyers reading this-and you have "Esquire" in your title-you won't git any buisiness from me-as I consider the title to be offensive and un-American-but then-I'm so pro-American-that I consider it to be un-American to buy non-American vehicles..lol.

Because even though most people's cursive was often a lot better back then than it typically is now, they still did make mistakes, especially since there were no pencils and erasers back then.

Franklin just in from doin his now world famous key on a kite trick most likely brought to the meeting his legendary peace pipe. Consequently the next day there were numerous errors that needed either retracting or explaining in italics.

It would be a pleasure sir-would you like regular,heavy-duty,or extra heavy-duty ? I find that the extra heavy-duty is the most durable and will yield the user many good months of use-depending on the severity of the panic attacks.
