This is something an apparition gave to St Simon Stock around 1215 IIRC with specific promises IF one wore the thing correctly.

The use of the brown scapular is a pious belief of some Catholics. It is not a doctrine of the faith, nor is it enjoined upon anyone. It is, in fact, somewhat close to the false protestant belief of "once saved, always saved", the only difference being that you have to wear the scapular (as some believe) to assure yourself of salvation.

I wear the scapular but not because I believe it has any power of itself to save me from my sins. It is a penitential sacramental--something that's slightly irritating to wear to remind you that you are a Christian, you should act like one, and that suffering is your lot.

IF you're wearing the scapular you're trusting what the apparition said. There's really no other reason to wear the idolatrous thing.

And if you are wearing it....well, that's not a Christian thing.

It is, in fact, somewhat close to the false protestant belief of "once saved, always saved", the only difference being that you have to wear the scapular (as some believe) to assure yourself of salvation.

Yet, those were the instructions from the apparition....that to be delivered from the hell-fire you had to wear the thing...among others.

. The Blessed Virgin assigned certain conditions which must be fulfilled:

1.Wear the Brown Scapular continuously.

2.Observe chastity according to one’s state in life (married/single).

3.Recite daily the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin OR Observe the fasts of the Church together with abstaining from meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays OR With permission of a priest, say five decades of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary OR With permission of a priest, substitute some other good work.

It is a penitential sacramental--something that's slightly irritating to wear to remind you that you are a Christian, you should act like one, and that suffering is your lot.

Wow....the sad life of Roman Catholicism.

Jesus said “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 NASB 95

Note the first part....the thief....that's the message of the apparition.
