This is not a single American, regardless of their politics, that does not realize that this story was driven by the political hate and bias of CBS, including Heyward and Rather. CBS has to fire both these guys or just get out of the news business. The brass at CBS is fooling absolutely no one. CBS is being destroyed by its own hand. Someone at the top is not in tune with the "real" world.

I think Heyward will "resign to spend more time with his family" at the appropriate time. But Moonves is too busy a guy to have individual producers reporting directly to him. He's already fired everybody else between him and the grunts, so he needs Heyward to stay there until they can re-populate the place. Personally, I think that's a mistake if Heyward is in fact not going to remain; new people coming in have a right to know who their boss is going to be... that's a big part of choosing a job. But maybe the "new team" is being assembled off to the side, and everybody will flip at once, including Rather. If they have to buy people out of contracts at other places in order to get them, March is not an unreasonable timeframe for making the switch. It takes time to "paper" all the contracts and deals. |
