Report: Man who shot pope to be freed

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - A court has approved the release of the man who shot Pope John Paul II in 1981, saying he completed his prison term in Turkey, the semiofficial Anatolia news agency reported Sunday.

Mehmet Ali Agca was extradited to Turkey in 2000 after serving almost 20 years in Italy for shooting and wounding the pope in St. Peter's Square in Rome. His motives for the attack remain unclear.

Agca, 46, was expected to be released as early as Monday.

The Pope forgave him a long time ago.

Put him in a sealed room with Hinckley and Dahmer, one knife, and a dinner plate.

Although I think it's BS, we can't come down too hard on them when we are releasing Hinkley on weekends for love fests with his mommy and daddy.

This doesn't bother me at all because 1) the victim specifically forgave him and 2) the offender has taken responsibility for the crime and expressed full remorse.

More great news.

And, too, Hinkley is just a few months away from being permanently released.

No problem. Just release him in a well publicized time and place - in Poland.

Twenty years is a pretty good stretch for attempted murder, especially in a place like Europe.

Frankly, I wonder how long Agca will survive after he is released. He has managed to keep his mouth shut for 20 years in prison, but will the KGB trust him to run around the streets with the knowledge he has?

He would be well advised to enter some sort of witness protection program, or he will not be long for this world.

When's Sirhan Sirhan going to be freed on parole?

He's served more time for killing (allegedly) just one person than most murderers in CA, 38 years. Isn't that enough penance.

Plus I'm sure he won't do it again.

WHY?! So he can take a stab at shooting the current Pope. This is an absolutely crazy decision. If true....

"'I'm surprised,' his lawyer, Dogan Yildirim, told The Associated Press by telephone. 'If its true, justice will finally be served.'"

???...."true justice"?...Somebody going to give him the punishment he deserves???

He never killed anyone (to my knowledge) and he's served 25 years. That's hardly a slap on the wrist. If he'd shot a liquor store owner, he'd have been out years ago.

Notice how the thugs who shot the pope and Ronald Reagan will be freed but the criminal who shot John Lennon will be in jail for life.

Well now isn't this rich. The man who caused so much pain to the CATHOLIC CHURCH is no goin to walk free. Well I guess God will have to handle that one too, cause, Italians don't keep ruthless killers behind bars. Oh that's right , it is being a radical to get angry at someone who only tried to kill the Pope Sorry.I guess I have too much respect for Pope John and how he suffered. But if they let him go God will take of it , cause we lost our sense of justice and His is better.

Shot that old man with a 9mm and he lived. Even leaving the possible intervention of the Almighty, I'll bet if he had used a 45 the Pope would be having tea and cookies with the man upstairs.....This alone is a serious indictment of the 9mm.

I was lurkin in the moonbat cave and they are actually posting something about the Regan assasination attempt and concluding it had something to do with Bush the Elder. The Bushes are trying to run the universe I guess LOL..............

Supposedly the brother of John Hinckley was to have dinner with Jeb the day after the shooting.

Is that even factually correct ?
