Aspiring doctor brain dead after friends pushed him into lake knowing he can’t swim

An aspiring medical student was left brain dead last month when his friends pushed him into a Louisiana lake knowing he couldn’t swim — and then looked on while doing nothing to save the drowning man, according to a report.

Shocking video shows the group casually peering into the water moments after they shoved Christopher Gilbert off the dock at Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville on April 14.

At least one woman can be seen slowly entering the water before abandoning the rescue mission.

It was another 10 minutes before a patron at a nearby restaurant intervened and yanked Gilbert back to land — just in the nick of time.

His friends should be charged. At least manslaughter if he doesn't make it.

He is called an aspiring doctor. He has a masters in something medically related, but hasn't been accepted into medical school.

I doubt this tells the entire story.

Just in the nick of time? He’s brain dead.

Bizarre story.

They sat there watching him for 20 minutes?

Most here would jump in for a stranger - much less a friend.

Whole story seems off. Obviously, he needed real friends.

Typically you have no duty in the U.S. to help another person - even if life or death - but since they pushed him in it’d be a crime to let him die.

If this were an aspiring rapper, I could understand.

"An aspiring medical student was left brain dead last month when his friends pushed him into a Louisiana lake knowing he couldn’t swim.

Sounds like he wasn't the only one in that bunch that was brain dead...

“Aspiring doctor brain dead after friends pushed him into lake knowing he can’t swim”

He could consider politics. Still more qualified than our current president.

No. “Good Samaritan” laws generally or usually don’t require passer bys to render aid. But - If one is the proximate cause of the trouble, then they have a duty to render aid.

Interestingly enough the laws that protect the public don’t help actual medical doctors or pros. So the trauma surgeon on his way to work, he ain’t gonna stop at a bad traffic collision and help out. Not a chance.

Photo shows the "aspiring doctor" is black.

Post story says he was pushed by a white female.

(Odd. They never mention the race when it's a black doing the misdeed.)

Mother on TV has a t-shirt that says: Justice For Chris. Black Lives Matter.

The one who pushed him knowing he couldn’t swim should be prosecuted and it’s disgusting none of his so-called friends did anything to help him.

When I was in HS I was horsing around with a black kid and pushed him into the deep end not knowing he couldn’t swim. I was naive at the time that many black kids couldn’t swim. But I helped pull him back out after realizing my mistake. My HS was over 93% black and most hated whites so I was lucky I didn’t get my azz beat.

To Kathy Donlevy. Commas are your friends. The title reads like a 50s horror flick.

I’ve heard blacks referred to as “non-swimmers.”

I guess it’s low body fat = harder to float.

No access to swim lessons or valuing it as a skill or sport.

He is no longer brain dead, has been taken off life support, and is supposed to be getting better.

Reports say he was underwater for either five or ten minutes.

A customer at a nearby restaurant jumped in to save him.

His friends only watched.

Bizarre.

I’ve heard some blame it on lack of access to public swimming pools but I think their parents just don’t prioritize them learning to swim. Most white parents want their kids to learn how to swim as just a basic safety precaution and encourage them to learn it while still young.
