"Donald Trump is very important to NATO and very committed to NATO", Secretary General Mark Rutte said in remarks at the European Parliament on Monday as many MEPs worry about the president of the United States' aggressive rhetoric against Europe. Whereas Trump's threats to control Greenland have been defined as "the end of NATO" by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Rutte said he believes that US President "deserves to be defended" and "is doing a lot of good stuff" for the NATO alliance. "The 2% [of the GDP spending target on defence] reached by all NATO countries at the end...

The International Monetary Fund is preparing for the possibility of a rapid sell-off of U.S. dollar-denominated assets, its managing director, Kristalina Georgieva, said today. "At the fund, one muscle that we are building is our ability to hypothetically present scenarios of unthinkable events and then figure out what to do," Georgieva said at an event hosted by Bruegel, a Brussels-based think-tank. Asked whether the scenarios include a potential run on dollar assets, Georgieva said the fund runs "all kinds of scenarios" and that it was examining the issue as part of its ongoing analysis. Her comments come as Donald Trump's...

California Governor Gavin Newsom accused TikTok on Monday of suppressing content critical of President Donald Trump as he launched a review of the platform’s content moderation practices to determine whether they violated state law. The step comes after TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, said it had finalised a deal to set up a majority US-owned joint venture that will secure US data, to avoid a US ban on the short video app used by more than 200 million Americans. “Following TikTok’s sale to a Trump-aligned business group, our office has received reports, and independently confirmed instances, of suppressed content critical of...

For many social media users, the irony was inescapable. Former President Bill Clinton, whose first term started with the bloodbath in Waco, Texas, and whose second term included impeachment on charges of lying under oath, took to social media on Sunday to weigh in on the leftist violence erupting in Minnesota. And the responses it stirred were scathing.

The UK government has pledged to introduce a digital ID system for all UK citizens and legal residents by the end of the current Parliament (so no later than 2029). The integration of digital ID into government services, though already under way, has hitherto been largely voluntary. However, it is becoming steadily less optional, as the government has said it will now be required as a precondition for work in the UK, and a version of it (GOV.UK One Login) is already being imposed unilaterally upon company directors throughout the UK. Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Darren Jones has...

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave a briefing Monday afternoon to, in part, distill the latest on the Trump administration's plans to bring law and order to Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the first official White House press briefing since Saturday's shooting of leftist protester Alex Pretti by a Customs and Border Patrol agent, and the weekend's events were clearly top of mind for everyone in the briefing room. Leavitt spoke first of the administration's disgust for the efforts of Democrats and hard-left agitators to disrupt "the will of the people;" President Trump has spoken previously of his dismay at...

Jerusalem, 25 January 2026 (TPS-IL) - Scientists have uncovered a rare, sharply defined neural circuit that behaves like an “on/off” switch, showing striking differences between males and females. The study, led by Dr. Tamar Licht and Dr. Dan Rokni from the Institute of Medical Research Israel-Canada (IMRIC) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, identified a previously unknown group of neurons...
