that is understandable, but i would hope that you would not judge those that disagree with what you find acceptable to be irrational, unhinged, or lawless.
To: NautiNurse
You are the one who has repeately referred to PVS and flat EEG.Well, and her doctors and neurologists, of course.
You aren't being honest with yourself or anyone when you deny the real issue is Mrs. Schiavo's cognitive level.
How do you figure? I'm the one who said she has no cognitive level and that is, in answer to your previous question, the level I'd set.

Stop it.I'm not sure what you want me to stop. Still looking for the minimum daily requirements for societal contribution, function, and cognition.

They are going to craft legislation that will intrude into things they have no business intruding into I hope not. The GOP can read the tea leaves (I hope)and see there is not poular support for such legislation.
I've already told my congress critter to butt out...

Once for yes, twice for no? Could she do just that?No & no. She has little hearing.
Cannot follow a command.
Her sight is impaired as well.

Still looking for the minimum daily requirements for societal contribution, function, and cognition. For who? Terri?
To: Scarlet7
"Terri's welfare is paramount."
Maybe for you it is. It obviously has little to do with most of the goings on in Florida.
Beyond that I think most people have themselves in mind and I think a huge proportion of people looking at this are saying "Oh God, please please don't let that ever happen to me!"
If the Schindlers had won there would be millions more of us hooked up to the tubes in years to come. That's the true bottom line and everybody secretly knows it.
Yes they are scared the reverse might happen ... they get snuffed before their time ... but they are willing to take that chance as it pales in comparison.
And as for Terri: I think a lot of us truly do care. I know I wouldn't treat a dog the way they've treated her. Like ___________ said, "They never should have recusitated her."

Plus a permanent family Congressional Seat ala the Fords(Memphis) and the Clays(St. Louis). It will get handed down from generation to generation.

yes towards ending life indiscriminately or towards preserving it against someone's will. i suppose we each must choose which we fear more.
To: annyokie
She should never have been resuscitated, IMO. Could you please provided guidance as to who, IYO, should or should not be resuscitated?

And your statement is like saying that what Randall Terry says represents the pro life movement. Find one single post where I have mentioned his name.
This issue isn't about one woman. It is about determining the minimum level of acceptable societal contribution and maximum consumption of resources.

I want the whole idea that "living" is wrapped up in breathing as living scotched.
I want infants and others who have a hope for a normal life to have access to the funds that are being squandered on TS and others like her.
Again, all have value but when is enough enough?

A court has determined, over and over, that it would be her wish not to live like this.
It is a nearly universal wish. I've stood, as most of us have, at the bedside of people hooked up to tubes and machines and invariably, the person standing next to me says "Don't let that happen to me."
When the doctors tell you that there is nothing else that can be done, most of us wish that our loved ones would go on in peace and live their lives and let us go. Most of us.
For those who do not wish that and want to live like Terri, indefinitely, they need to make that wish known, in writing, to all their family members.
And now I must run and make dinner.

I have said many times that I don't wish TS's death. You're an attorney. Do you want to circumvent a case that has been vetted till the cows come home because you disagree?
This wholesale wish to overthrow state and federal constitutional law is the crux of the issue.

It's not about whether you mentioned Randall Terry. It's about your comment that one sentence uttered by one person would be this thread's manifesto.
And, as I pointed out, one statement out of two threads that have nearly 8,000 comments will not stand as the manifesto. LOL
But nice try at changing the argument.
And although some people might make the argument about societal contributions, that has not been my argument at all, and you know that.
And now I have a hungry husband who has been all too patient.

She can breath unaided. She can't eat on her own. She is sucking up resources that could be used on others who have hope of contributing to society. I value her as a human being, but where does palliative care stop? She is lower functioning than any of the folks I helped tend at the board and care. Though you have the right to your opinion
That I find to be a disturbing comment

that has not been my argument at all, and you know that.Your position has been her lack of cognitive function. Now, how does that not correlate to societal contribution and utilization of resources?

You don't get it!
Nauti-Nurse doesn't care if Terri is totally brain dead, just as long as her body can be kept alive. Can't argue with that mentality.
