DeLay Apologizes for Schiavo Case Rhetoric
AP via Yahoo ^ | April 13, 2005 | Terence Hunt

Posted on 04/13/2005 8:21:32 PM PDT by cyncooper

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay apologized Wednesday for using overheated rhetoric on the day Terri Schiavo died, but refused to say whether he supports impeachment of the judges who ruled in her case.

~snip~

At a crowded news conference in his Capitol office, DeLay addressed remarks he made in the hours after the brain-damaged Florida woman died on March 31. "I said something in an inartful way and I shouldn't have said it that way and I apologize for saying it that way," DeLay told reporters.

~snip~

DeLay seemed at pains to soften, if slightly, his rhetoric of March 31, when Schiavo died despite an extraordinary political and legal effort to save her life.

"I believe in an independent judiciary. I repeat, of course I believe in an independent judiciary," DeLay said.

At the same time, he added, the Constitution gives Congress power to oversee the courts.

"We set up the courts. We can unset the courts. We have the power of the purse," DeLay said.

Asked whether he favors impeachment for any of the judges in the Schiavo case, he did not answer directly.

Instead, he referred reporters to an earlier request he made to the House Judiciary Committee to look into "judicial activism" and Schiavo's case in particular.

Wow, overblown rhetoric from the Terri crowd?

The "Terri crowd", for anyone who missed the Zogby poll, is just right around 80% of the country.

You notice that they throw these vile bombs couched in weasel words. Then they cover their tracks and fall all over themselves to only insinuate that you are a nazi.

Its bush league cowardly argumentation skills. No one argues the case, just lobs name calling bombs from afar and when asked a direct yes or no question to clarify, chickens out.

Remember when there were arguments here based on the merit of the argument? Now its like grammar school.

Which they refuse to do, since they will be lied about and ruined by the news media as DeLay was. The Republicans need to learn one thing: Don't apologize; Get even. Alas, alas, this great country is sinking into hell, because our Republicans are terrified of the press and the democrats.

The writing is on the board for all to see.

Actually there are a very large number of posts on that thread. I highly doubt "all" are going to wade through them to find what you allege to be so incriminating.

Perhaps if you would post the comment that you object to, we can judge for ourselves.

Yeah, and not only are they legislating, they have usurped the power of the executive as well, with the permission of the chief executive through cowardly inaction.

The armed men who were guarding the hospice (assuring the death warrant without trial would be carried out without interference) are supposed to be an arm of the executive branch.

But in this case, they instead served a corrupt judge by default.

Functionally, our elected leaders allowed the entire power of the the State of Florida and of the United States of America to be coopted by a probate judge.

And from the perspective of Terri Schiavo, this virtual King George Greer effectively revoked the most important parts of the Bill of Rights and of the Florida constitution.

Those that need to know, know.

And everyone else should just take your word for it? It doesn't quite work that way.

Thought the same thing when I read this-- why is it when a Dummycrat is accused, they all circle the wagons, and the story goes away. When a 'Pub is accused, his fellow 'Pubs join the fray?? Makes me wonder, just whose side are they on??

So, ignoring a Congressional Subpoena is not grounds for impeachment?

Nor is ignoring a Congressional mandate for a "de nuvo" (or whatever it was called - sorry about the spelling here) trial to take place?

Man, if that ain't grounds for impeachment, I sure don't know what is.

It really cracks me up how easily Zogby became an authoritative poll on FR.

You really want someone to clearly state why folks like you are being compared to Nazis? Too easy.

You are being compared to Nazis because the parallels to how the holocaust perpetrated by German Nazis...from the weasel words that cloak murder, to the passing of so-called 'laws' that permit it, to the propaganda methods employed to make murder of the weakest seem acceptable to a gullible and complacent public...are almost EXACT.

The thing is, Americans have less of an excuse for these atrocities, since we have a Constitution that explicitly forbids taking the lives of citizens short of being convicted of a capital crime.

Our problem is that we now have a medical, legal and political class who pretend that the Constitution either doesn't exist or says exactly the opposite of its clear wording.

So, in that sense, maybe those who are perpetrating and/or defending this judicial murder could be said to be WORSE than Nazis.

Don't you think?

My apologies. I did not mean for it to sound that way. I am not going to post a link to another message board. Especially one that only seems to exist to bash religious freepers.

I do not expect anyone to just take my word for it but like I said above, I do not wish to post a link to another message board.

Rush Limbaugh is talking about DeLay today, and is going to interview DeLay after his radio show.

Rush said that the Washington Post got it wrong, and DeLay merely apologized for the "inartful" way he said his comments, BUT did NOT apologize for the comments.

In fact, he is NOT backing down, and on the contrary is bring up Article 3...............

He is STILL fighting for justice folks, and we can support him by sending him an e-mail or calling him and telling him thank you for fighting against activist judges.

Yes. It's a shame. Everyone, it seems, has swallowed the 'go along to get along' soma. There are just some heavier users than others.

General Dwight D. Eisenhauer had to force German citizens like that to file past the end result of such complacency in 1945.

I thought the members of WPPFF might be disappointed after they heard more from Delay. They just automatically took what the MSM said and ran with it. They thought they had a bone, but now they see that that dog won't hunt!

If you guys from the WPPFF would like to have a congressperson on your side, look up Teddy Kennedy.
