DeLay Apologizes for Schiavo Case Rhetoric
AP via Yahoo ^ | April 13, 2005 | Terence Hunt

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay apologized Wednesday for using overheated rhetoric on the day Terri Schiavo died, but refused to say whether he supports impeachment of the judges who ruled in her case.

~snip~

At a crowded news conference in his Capitol office, DeLay addressed remarks he made in the hours after the brain-damaged Florida woman died on March 31. "I said something in an inartful way and I shouldn't have said it that way and I apologize for saying it that way," DeLay told reporters.

DeLay seemed at pains to soften, if slightly, his rhetoric of March 31, when Schiavo died despite an extraordinary political and legal effort to save her life.

"I believe in an independent judiciary. I repeat, of course I believe in an independent judiciary," DeLay said.

At the same time, he added, the Constitution gives Congress power to oversee the courts.

"We set up the courts. We can unset the courts. We have the power of the purse," DeLay said.

Asked whether he favors impeachment for any of the judges in the Schiavo case, he did not answer directly.

Instead, he referred reporters to an earlier request he made to the House Judiciary Committee to look into "judicial activism" and Schiavo's case in particular.

... Might I suggest that the last thing any politician needs is your activity?

We used to have another carbuncle here with the pretensious handle of Navigator. He told us over and over what a dedicated operative he was, but he was dim enough to list the lost causes in which he participated. Never did dawn on him what a complete loser he was. I'm am overjoyed that EVie has disassociated himself with the Republican Party and I hope that all whackjobs follow his excellent example.

Sweetie after I have rotten for a while laying unaware and consuming the resources of my family or society I HOPE they pull the plug on such a charade. But then I am neither afraid of the other world nor selfish.

You choose your life or NOT,I'll let GOD choose for me. I'm neither selfish nor afraid. I believe killing is a sin.

If you think it's selfless to commit suicide, then move over you're breathing my air. Do you suppose someone with your attitude might someday say that to you? Is that what you want to see happen? Do you think there are too many useless people occupying hospital beds and resource? Why not just hand them a gun and tell them point and shoot? Eventually you will find out the truth when you meet your maker.

We should all be so lucky as to have a loving and caring family to fight for our lives. CHARADE? I would be HONORED to have the Schindlers fighting for me. I find it hard to read the stupid remarks on these threads. I am ashamed of our country and it's SELFISH BRATS.

And NO I'M not going to shut up and take it if it's WRONG!!!!! "All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing".... I believe that. If you don't than you have bought the lie, hook, line and sinker. SWEETIE!!!!

We will have to be careful now when we preach to other countries about human rights. Until we get our own house in order regarding judge-sanctioned murders it's going to seem hypocritical of us lecturing third world countries about what they shouldn't be doing.

Good points, I had the same thoughts too. I know I've seen really bad human rights abuses in Red China and so on and although they are horrendous and need to be addressed, with the loss of Terri, we do need to do some soul searching ourselves. I think we really fell several notches on the worls stage in that department.

Isn't it weird how none of the WPPFF crowd will answer whether they were 100% sure that Terri wanted to starve to death?

I was for her parents being granted guardianship and letting the feeding tube remain. I've said that and others in the WPPFF have stated categorically they were against the feeding tube being removed, yet you merrily roll along lying about the thread as if everyone agreed on the case when you've been told differently repeatedly and yet you just ignore those facts.

Right on this thread Trinity Tx stated it flatly; she was against the feeding tube being removed. No matter. She was treated to being told how she was delirious with joy over the "murder" of Terri Schiavo and was treated to some bizarre conspiracy theory about being attached in some remote way to the hospice. Yet the poster purveying that oddball garbage wanders far and wide across the forum creating an atmosphere of kookdom.

That's what's weird. The rampant lying and rumor-mongering and vilification.

And seemingly capricious bannings.

The little female (EM) called me a "stalker" for merely asking a question of another poster.

Let me state it plainly:

You post to me constantly. I have not replied to you for almost two straight weeks yet day after day there you are posting to me on almost any thread I am on or even freepmailing me.

That is called stalking.

I have ignored you and I do not run to the mods as a rule but I am saying it once: Do not post to me again.

maine-iac7: doctor's have said the opposite - that 9 out of 10 who previously had a living will - when actually in that situation - change their minds.

Peach: I'll wait while you provide a link. That is contrary to everything I've heard and read.

This isn't on that point, but it is an interesting survey. The "Would trust ... " serious of questions is interesting. People don't trust the courts, it would seem ;-)

What are you not understanding?!? She had her rights defended. She went through the due process of law. Through court after court after court. Over and over and over and over....When her options ran out at the state level, the national government stepped in and those courts didn't even see anything.

But according to Republicans (the new liberals), we're supposed to create law out of thin air, overturn state judgements, destroy federalism, and encroach upon the rights of the states to save the existence of a woman, who by those who actually inspected her (minus a supposed 'Nobel Prize nominee'), was already more than likely dead.

BTW, not as if it matters to Republicans anymore but this?

The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.

was written by James Madison. You do remember which document we credit him for don't you? I imagine he knew exactly where the President should be on all domestic issues. I know, 'facts' don't matter. Nothing does. 'We' are in control, to hell with the Constitution and the limitations upon the national government. They know what's best for us anyway right?
