Remarkable is the continuous boom in arrivals from Scandinavian countries. Arrivals from Denmark are up by 520 percent to 62 visitors in July 2005, Finland up by 163 percent to 42 arrivals and Sweden up by 152.1 percent to 184 arrivals. Norway lost its growth steam, 44 Norwegians arrived on the island in July 2005, down by 8.3 percent.

This is what Aruba calls remarkable continuous boom in arrivals from Scandinavia:

Denmark: up by 520% to 62 visitors.
Finland: up by 163% to 42 visitors.
Sweden: up by 152.1 % to 184 visitors.
Norway: down by 8.3% to 44 visitors.

These Scandinavian booming figures will certainly keep the hotels full.

And we have no idea just how many 'free trips' were involved here. Those costs can go under the 'advertising' category much like newspapers give away free papers to pump up their circulation/distribution numbers to justify the rate they charge for advertising. Gimmicks are used to deceive.

I'm sure that 99% of these folks who went to aruba in july were booked in advance, making them meaningless for the purpose that this rag is attempting......this case received only a small amount (relatively speaking) of publicity through all of june. Where's that live video of the overcrowded beaches? Round trip airfare and 7 days lodging for $700?

Pretty soon they'll be eating that stuff they used to feed to the sharks, and the garbage dump will look like the ones in messico city, over-run with 'residents'. Good thing the Dutch are tolerant, because sooner or later the real arubans will rise up and bite them.....

Considering the previous posts in regard to tourism that have been excerpted from Aruban newspapers, and the fact that this item on the Aruba bulletin board has no link back to the official govt. numbers, I think they need to move those beach cameras we've been looking at to the place on the beach where all these tourists have pitched their tents and are sleeping! Or maybe Aruba has turned into Vegas II, and the tourists are going there to stay in the casinos 24/7 and never check out the beaches. Can we assume all these 24/7 hardcore gamblers have paddled a canoe from Europe or FL since they didn't fly in and didn't arrive on a cruise ship?

The following from the Prosecutors office and confirmed by the MSM:

ORANJESTAD - The team in charge of the investigation in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway has a strong suspicion that the young lady in question has lost her life as a consequence of a punishable crime committed against her.

Also, the team is of opinion that there are person(s)who have more information that have not given statements to the police. With this communication, the investigative team is asking all persons who can give more information in relation to the case of Natalee Holloway to contact the police. The team guarantees that all persons who call will be able to speak directly to commissioner Dompig and will remain anonymous.

After seven months of investigation we finally get this acknowledgment … “the disappearance of Natalee Holloway has a strong suspicion that the young lady in question has lost her life as a consequence of a punishable crime committed against her”.

I guess all the other theories can now be put to rest, runaway, drowning, etc.

Did we really have to go beyond Gerold Dompig’s statement, “these boys are guilty as Hell“.

boycott ain't working?

I think the boycott is having a detrimental effect on the Aruban hotel industry, which the Aruban officials are trying to avoid admitting.

The Aruba Tourism Authority and the Central Bank of Aruba have only just now released the numbers for the July, 2005 hotel occupancy rate, and there are no numbers yet for Aug thru Dec, 2005.

We do have this from the CBA, posted, I think, in Oct, 2005:

"ORANJESTAD-The amount of stay-over arrivals in Aruba grew by 10.6 percent in June 2005 in comparison to June 2004. With a total of 59,622 stay-over arrivals in June 2005 it is the busiest June month in the history of tourism on the island. The average hotel occupancy rate stood at 78.3 percent in June 2005 in comparison to 70.7 percent in June 2004, an increase of 7.6 percentage points. For the second consecutive year there is no low-season in Aruba."

NOTE, how things were in June, when most people were already booked into the hotels, and before there was a call for a boycott for Natalee.

Then this was posted by CBA:

"November 8th 2005, Aruba.
ORANJESTAD-According to the monthly bulletin released by the Central Bank of Aruba on November 8th, average hotel occupancy rates fell by 6.2 percentage points in September 2005 in comparison to September 2004. The average hotel occupancy rate stood at 69.3 percent in September 2005, the lowest occupancy rate since June 2003. The number of stay-over arrivals for September 2005 is not given as of yet by the Aruba Tourism Authority. However a decline in stay-over arrivals is expected. This may be attributed to the busiest hurricane season on record, record breaking energy costs and the Natalee Holloway affaire."

NOW, we find out that after having June, 2005 with an increase over June, 2004 of 10.6%, and after Natalee's disappearance and the botching by ALE of her case became generally known, for July, 2005 over July, 2004 there was an increase of only 0.04%. So, there was, in one month, a year-to-year visitor increase comparison drop from 10.6% down to 0.04% of visitors.

THEN, on Nov 8th, CBA reported the average hotel occupancy rates fell by 6.2% in September, 2005 in comparison to September, 2004.

SO, although Aug, 2005 isn't reported, we do have:

June-05 compared to June-04: s/o visitors up by 10.6%.
July-05 compared to July-04: s/o visitors up by 0.04%.
Aug.-05 compared to Aug.-04: not reported.
Sept-05 compared to Sept-04: s/o visitors fell by 6.2%.

IF, we could see the actual hotel occupancy numbers for Aug thru Dec, 2005, we would see just how effective the boycott has been thus far.

The new high-powered advertising group is going to focus on corporate conference and other kinds of group trips to Aruba. Maybe that will offset the American vacationers who have sympathy for Natalee and Beth, and go elsewhere for their island vacations. It may be enough to keep Aruba afloat. We will have to wait and see.

Have you forgotten C.O. that I'm a computer illiterate and couldn't post a picture if my life depended on it? I haven't got any anyway. If I knew how to post pix, I'd put that bottle of spray stuff up they are advertising on cable that is supposed to get the smell of urine out of carpet, etc. anytime anybody mentioned Urine's name! (The Urine in a circle with the slash through it.)

How to post a picture:

Bring up a website that has the picture you want to post.

Right click on the picture, click on 'Properties'. Use mouse to highlight the Address (URL) such as:

http://www.bucuticam.com/bucexp.jpg

Right click on the highlighted Url and click 'Copy'.

Then go to FR posting website, and in 'Your Reply' box, paste the copied Url.

Then in front of the http type:

Just the left arrow sign, leaving out the parenthesis, and follow with img with no space after the left arrow, then a space between img and src, then no spaces between src and ". (<)img src="

and type this at the end of the .jpg of the Url:

" the right arrow sign with no space and no prenthesis.(>)

The trouble with typing the line just as it should look is that the picture will post, not the instruction line.

Lastly, click on 'Preview' to test it out. If the picture does not appear, try screaming and tearing your hair. That always works.

Thank you Sheba. I copied your post. Tomorrow I will hunt for something and see if I can do it. If not, I will beat my head on the keyboard first and then pull half of my hair out after that. If that doesn't work, I'll try screaming first, then pull the remainder of my hair out as you suggest.

I just don't believe it. Now this is plausible.

Forensic experts are investigating a letter reportedly written by Natalee Holloway from a secret hiding place, confessing that she ran off in Aruba out of shame that she was PREGNANT.

The letter was turned over just weeks ago to Aruban police and was immediately sent to Holland, the island's mother country, for scientific testing to determine if it is a breakthrough clue in the seven-month-old case of the missing 18-year-old from Alabama.

"In the letter, Natalee tells her mom that she's sorry for all the pain she's caused her family," said a source close to the investigation. "She said that she was already pregnant when she got to Aruba and that she was too embarrassed to tell anyone. Natalee said she decided she had to run away to have the child because she didn't think anyone back home would understand her."

That letter is a load of crap! American girls who are pregnant and unmarried no longer run away in shame and hide. That is ludicrous. They have their babies and parade them around in the limelight, like numerous film stars do. It's "in" to be a single mom nowadays. In the USA in some communities, 50 % of babies born are to single moms.

Natalee's mother, while she might disapprove, is a religious woman who would embrace her daughter and grandchild-to-be in such a situation. The family has plenty of money, so the baby would be privileged.

The letter is a hoax, and an extremely bad one, at that.

To not distract from the theme of this thread - I'm just going to say as a single mom (and Palladin, you're well aware I've voiced this on other threads) - you don't get to complain about single moms in one breath - and abortion in the next - *mumbling about the ugly drumbeat from the conservative folks - who laugh about boys and their gentlemen clubs - and throw all sorts of comments out there about single moms*
