Intelligent Design case decided - Dover, Pennsylvania, School Board loses [Fox News Alert]
Fox News | 12/20/05

Fox News alert a few minutes ago says the Dover School Board lost their bid to have Intelligent Design introduced into high school biology classes. The federal judge ruled that their case was based on the premise that Darwin's Theory of Evolution was incompatible with religion, and that this premise is false.

Scientific estimates of the age of the earth stabilised about 50 years ago...

It's good to know that in the billions of years (according to evolutionists) that the Earth has been in existence, we've finally nailed it down! I'd like to see what they're saying in another 50 years.

Here's one that's more likely to look like Jesus:

Son, it never began.

Weren't you the one who couldn't get past the definition of "theory"?

So many posts, so little time.

"All I want is a testible hypothesis from the ID crowd."

If earth's ecosystem is the result of intelligent design, then it is very unlikely that this would be the ONLY planet they designed, and also unlikely that they would not re-use designs when possible. If it's by evolution then it would be virtually impossible for evolution to duplicate the result we see here on earth.

The existance of one other planet that also has or had a native human population would be a major proof of ID and a virtual impossibility for evolution. The existance of many such planets would be overwhelming proof of ID.

Already addressed in a previous post. When you have a fish that evolves into something that is not a fish and more complex than a fish, call me. Otherwise, you're no different than that street preacher standing on the corner with the sign that says, "The End is Near."

Except his sign may be more correct than your theory.

The estimate of millions of years old predates radioisotope dating--hell, it predates the revolution in physics wrought by understanding the structure of the atom which makes radioisotope dating techniques possible.

So this opens the door to newer technology, etc, coming out that changes these estimates yet again.

If you know where a transcript can be found, would you kindly provide a link?

Oh, for heaven's sake.

How does that discussion advance scientific learning? Or is that not the purpose of science class?

It is impressive isn't it? Except I expect you are being sarcastic. Tell me, would you rather scientists *hadn't* worked out how old the earth is, to a high degree of reliability, with now several different correlating measurements? I guess you wish they hadn't, because the answer upsets your religious sensibilities. Tough.

And I thought the constitution forbid the GOVERNMENT from establishing religion.
Nope, just Congress. The First Amendment

Bzzzz! Wrong answer. The Ninth and Tenth Amendments provide that the government has no powers not given to it by the Constitution, so even without the First Amendment the federal government wouldn't have any authority to establish religion.

The reason Congress requires special mention is that the Constitution gives is the authority to pass laws "necessary and proper" to the exercise of its expressly delegated powers, which could have introduced some leeway specifically for the legislature. The First Amendment plugs that hole.

The Dover decision doesn't "establish" religion. It's simply a huge, and richly deserved, setback for the American Taliban.

"So now you say there is no theory of the origin of life EXCEPT ID?"

ID contains the only hypothesis for the origin of life which is testable and falsifiable. That does not make it true. That does not rule out abiogenesis as a historical possibility. But there is no competing hypothesis for the origin of life that achieves this demarcation.

No right, no wrong, no good, no bad. Just what happens and what happens because of it. Actions and consequences. Sad.

When the most important thing about your existence that you want people to know about you is that you have no belief in God, to me that's sad as it gets.

"Tell me the one thing that you want me to know about you that can be said in one sentence."

"Umm, well, I guess the most important thing about me that I want you to know is that I cannot believe in God".

The saddest part of all is that it's not something you can change even if you want to. A man cannot make himself believe that which he does not believe.

That is why I never feel anger towards such folks, only saddness. I do oppose the attempt to convert others to share the pain however.

I have no problem with this. What I do have a problem is with some unelected prick telling us what we can and cannot teach!!

It doesn't bother me at all because I'm sure their answer will change yet again. I place my faith in a perfect God, not imperfect scientists.

"They can always produce results from already created materials but have yet to create something from nothing."

You clearly don't know what ID is. Nothing in ID requires creation from nothing, nor does it require any kind of divinity on the part of the creator.

Answer me this: If you walked into a room and found 500 dice on a table and they all had the 6 side up and were placed so as to spell out your name, would you think it more likely that they were placed that way by an intellligent being, or that they randomly fell into that configuration? Is not our plant a far more complex configuration than that?
