Anybody can live anywhere, we don't know if the shooter was Amish, or former Amish, or not at all. In fact we only have rumors right now. How many of the old houses have been split into dupluxes and rentals, not to mention he may have simply worked with that community, rather than lived there. No need to jump to conclusions right now. BTW, I used to live a half hour from there.
What is going on in this country the last couple weeks? This is crazy.
What a terrible picture.
"Seriously, Nickle Mines is VERY out in the middle of nowhere. About as rural as Lancaster County gets nowadays."
It must be rural! I was born & raised in the Reading area & I never heard of Nickle Mines until today.
No prob. I didn't even realize you sent me mail. Thanks for the reply - both of them! :)
I've seen the ads outside of Shady Maple farm market -- either Amish looking for someone to taxi them, or people willing to taxi the Amish about.
no jokes please!
News clipping from there said 6 fatalities.
bowie is bi?
I didn't know that, but I grew up with jazz/R&B not rock n roll.
Bowie is Rock right?
I don't know who scares me more, the islamic lunatics or the posters at DU.
That's just not true. I'm Pres and we don't consider ourselves as the least bit insular. Jews live in the world, but are an exclusive community within it. The Amish, of whom I have much respect, are extremely insular. They want it that way and have paid the price genetically. They are wonderful people.
KFI Los Angeles just announced there were six fatalities in the Amish school shooting.
I was very sorry to hear it.
Thanks.
"Has the whole world gone absolutely freakin' crazy?"

"This is barely the commencement of the beginning of the start of the warm-up coming down the pike."

I've always believed that the path to a New World Order/One World Govt. would be to create so much confusion and disruption that we would beg for someone to come in and "take over" to straighten things out.
You are correct in saying that this is only the beginning.
I had forgotten the Amish vote. Having lived in PA and met a few Amish, I remember being amazed at how GWB was able to reach these people. I remember thinking that getting the Amish vote had to be a sign from above that GWB was the right man.
OMG how horrible.
My prayers are with the families of those little girls.
Evidently this was in the Religion forum for a while or something, since the Religion Moderator cut a swath through and wiped out discussion of Amish sociology along with the "tasteless" comments. It's a shame, since the question of how the Amish are struggling with the modern world is definitely not only relevant to this, but to our own society's struggles.
Many people fail to realize that there are Amish gangs, drug dealers, etc. Today's event is a horrible tragedy that is only one of many sociological struggles the Amish are facing, and only time will tell us whether it is related or not. I hope the mods can understand that not everyone discussing "Amish gangs," or the like, is being facetious. (...'though such discussion might likely be as irrelevant as the knee-jerk comments against Muslims, Catholics, or whatever flavor of the week is being trashed.)
