Update: Multiple Shooting Victims and Possible Hostages in Lancaster County

Not many details available yet, but an incident has been reported from Mine Rd. in Bart Township in Lancaster County involving multiple gunshot victims. Dennis Buterbaugh reports live from our newsroom. abc27 has a news crew on the way. We will update with details as they become available.

Update 2: Pennsylvania Police: Amish School is 'Horrendous Crime Scene' After Shooting

NICKEL MINES, Pa. — At least two female students and one slightly older female — who may have been a teacher's aide — were shot and killed execution style in what police say may be a revenge killing for something that happened 20 years ago.

State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said Monday that truck driver Charles Carl Roberts IV entered the one-room Amish schoolhouse in earlier in the day. The gunman brought in pieces of wood to board up the doors to the building when he entered the school. He also stacked desks against the building's doors.

"It appears that the suspect entered school with the intention of taking hostages," Miller said.

Roberts had wire ties and plastic flex cuff, which he used to begin tying the hostages feet together after they were lined up along a blackboard. He let go 15 male students, as well as one adult female who was pregnant. Three other non-student females with infants were also allowed to leave. One shotgun and one handgun was found next to the suspect when police entered the building.

"It seems as though he wanted to attack young, female victims," Miller said.

After a half hour inside, Roberts began shooting. When the gunfire stopped, three females were found shot dead at the scene, along with the suspect, who shot himself, Miller said. At least seven more victims — some critically wounded — were transported to nearby hospitals, he said. One victim, a young girl, died in the arms of a trooper, Miller said. He could not confirm how many people died en route or at the hospital. The county coroner earlier reported six children killed but then backed off of that statement.

Are you kidding?

Obviously the administrator didn't think so, cause my post was removed. :-)

What I was trying to say is: if the press didn't cover these incidents like a lookie loo carnival, there would probably be less incidents...and speculation as to why they occur. They seem to occur in bunches, but then what do I know?

I hope you read this, before it gets pulled. :-O

The Dunkards (I know this group well having had 2 grandparents, 1 each side, who grew up as members) are considered an "historic peace church", except all the Dunkards I know joined the Army and served in America's wars.

Their people (for the most part) had originally came from Uniontown Pennsylvania, and those folks there originally came from Lancaster and York counties in Pennsylvania, mostly Paradise township.

Uniontown was a non-Amish area settled predominantly by First Borners, Dunkards and other Plain Church people.

I know that when I read the names of the children who were murdered that I will recognize surnames. Trying to keep that part repressed at the moment.

One can also note that psychological "disorders" can be culturally defined. What is normal in one culture might be "crazy" in another.

Really? I've been listening to FOX...I didn't hear that. Has that been confirmed?

I have been watching Fox & nothing was said about it being a student or amish resident.

Shooter is rumored to be a 70 year old taxi driver went into the school, ordered the males to leave, lined up the girls and shot them. Was angry with some of the Amish mothers. Claim is on CNN from a caller supposedly a resident in the community. FWIW.

Yes, they do drink and party as teenagers. There are drug problems in the community, and there have been busts in Lancaster county for Amish/Pagan motorcycle gang drug rings.

A lot of people don't realize it, but the Pagans are thick in SW Lancaster County.

Pa dutch food is exceptional and will cause high degrees of weight gain in a short amount of time.

It's designed for men who do twelve hours or more of demaning physical labor a day. The Amish now grow tobacco, and they put in every plant by hand - acres of it.

Reports coming in.

Ole Roy was a hired taxi driver for the Amish and he got into a squabble with the Moms so he settled it by sending the boys out and lining up the girls shooting all the lil girls.
Per a witness on the phone with CNN
Creep!

"Since Mom and Dad work at home, they are always around w/ their kids." An admirable example for the rest of America.

Exactly. while there's always going to be problems between parents and kids, from everything I've seen/read about the Amish, they seem to have a wonderful family situation. And I believe there's a lot of support in the extended family/community as a whole.

I've tried to read everything I can about the Amish. Honestly, I admire them and am a bit envious. I love to cook & quilt & garden. Seriously, I really wish sometimes that I could live a lifestyle like the Amish.

CNN is reporting unconfirmed reports that it was a 70-year-old taxi driver who had a falling out with one or more of the mothers of the kids. The guy lined up all the little girls and shot them all.

Unconfirmed, however.

I know of three Paradise Townships in PA (don't know if you've received a definitive answer yet). One is in York County, PA on US Rte 30 - a little ways West of York.

A second is in Lancaster County, PA, also on US Rte 30 - this one is east of Lancaster, PA.

A third is in the Poconos, near Mt. Pocono, off of Interstates 80/380.

Pretty stupid comment since you have no idea who the shooter is.

"Bow-ie" instead of "Boo-ie"

bow-ie: bisexual singer. boo-ie: american knife inventor.

Drop the tagline for today.

It is Scriptural, but a lot of posters here are not aware of the context and it only causes pain.

You are just wrong. Everyone who has dealings with the Amish respect them immensely. I don't believe the Jews consider themselves any more insular than, say, the Presbyterians, either.

May 18, 1927 - Bath, Michigan

On a warm Spring morning in May of 1927 the Treasurer of the Bath, Michigan Consolidated School District blew up half of the school building (intending to have destroyed all of it). Within the hour he had committed suicide (and more murders) in the middle of the village by detonating explosives in his vehicle. In all, 45 people would be dead & many more would be injured in the worst instance of school violence in U.S. history.

This sort of thing has been going on for a long time.
