Many people carry defensive firearms. It has been estimated legally-owned sidearms are used over 2,000,000 times per year (with rarely a shot fired) by private citizens to prevent crime. Hopefully more and more states will wisely turn either "aqua" or, better yet, "green" in the map below:

I have no problems with people having firearms. I live in an area where there hasn't been much need for them. Very few robberies (although my pastor DID have his GUNS stolen), virtually no murders (except for Donald Sigsbee's spree a number of years ago) and no muggings. We're fortunate for sure. If I lived in the city or in an area with high crime, I'd have one myself.
