So fathers are nothing,...

I didn't say that. But then, you know that. Might want to look up "straw man" sometime.

Have you ever considered the possibility that it isn't your call if it's the "wrong answer" or not?

nice how you mention Jefferson in this context, who fathered illegitimate children with at least one of his slaves

Please cite references.

I think the 'poster' would be more accurately depicted as a lonely young woman raising her child poor and alone.

....and before you even begin to formulate the words, I do have compassion for these folks. Not the liberal, "what's my feel good project for the day".

Sickening.

The punchline to your strip joint story is priceless, and you don't even get it.

I have read of the controversy about Sally Hemmings, if this is what you're referring to. I'm not sure the issue (no pun intended) is settled. I head there might have been one child, and that the relationship was a mutual one.

Even if this is true (which, afaik, is not certain, but I could be wrong) does not change anything.

So you're saying his writings mean nothing since he was guilty of miscegenation?

Our prisons are full of fatherless children. My taxes pay for that.

Oh, gee, why don't we just make sure that every child has one then!

We should outlaw fertility clinics that aren't approved of by our new moral government, who will make sure that the parents are 'fit'.

Heck, why stop there? We should just outlaw sex unless they get a government approved license. After all, if they are a bad couple and have a rotten kid, it'll affect me, so I have the right to make sure I'm not affected by their rotten kid. So sex license it is!

But I'm sure you won't even bother to acknowledge that I've just been proven right.

One person saying something lamenting that the past did not suffer our present day moral confusion is hardly a rousing call for immediate Big Gov't political action.

"old, victorian morality laws"

Laws such as contributing to the delinquency of a minor, public indency and public sex, sodomy, etc.

All those things should be legal, then, according to you. You must like Gay Pride parades, then, since that's all those things and more rolled into one event.

She continues to repudiate the work to which her father has devoted his life.

I don't think this is accurate. VP Cheney has dedicated his life to the notion of less government regulation in the personal lives of every day Americans and less taxes. I agree with VP Cheney's views of government. I don't think that Mary Cheney has made a wise decision, but it's none of my business. Her choices are between her and God.

Indeed. First thing I noticed. He basically proved himself wrong and somehow was completely oblivious to that fact.

Sincere question: Who raised you during the day?

My mom, my dad, my grandmother, and the school system. We also had neighbors with kids where we would hang out. pretty much everyone in my neighborhood had two working parents.

In general, do you think that having both parents work is good for children?

I think it's pretty much a wash. Everything being equal, maybe not. But everything isn't equal. There are circumstances where having both parents work will be more beneficial to the child, and circumstances where it won't. I will say that I don't think that it is inherently detrimental to a child for both parents to work. Which is probably where we would agree to disagree.

You misread what I said. It was specific to the Cheney case

I was just going by your post. Are you saying that in general, you do believe that career parents aren't "true" parents but just in the Cheney case, you disagree?

And sorry, I do believe that mothers who put their career before their children (except in cases of true need), while they may be "true" parents, have their priorities severely screwed up.

I agree with this. But I also do not believe that the majority of career people put their career before their children. It's possible to have a career while still prioritizing your children. At least I believe this.

Yes, you have already made your meaningless jester in an attempt to substitute substance with a jpeg, essentially admitting to your own inability to form a coherent arguement.

If it is true, so what? It is irrelavent to the subject at hand.

churtldawg's transparent argument is that if a human being has a flaw, then the floodgates should be opened to every sort of vice.
