DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

I think we can let Jim be the judge. If I were he, I’d block-ban the lot of you anti-FReepers.

Why do y’all find it necessary to refer to FR as TOP (the other place)?

Yes, many who are on this page of this thread are members there.

Freepers like myself were here from the very inceptions of FreeRepublic...not like you radicals who are trying to destroy this website.

Wideawakes is an AntiFReep site and is populated with several Clown Posse members as well. All members there should be block-banned from FR.

What a load of garbage. And once again I'm watching supposed conservatives who are afraid of free speech and try to stifle it because some of us support a Republican you don't like.

Why don't you go crying to Jim some more; it's what a good portion of you whiny men have been doing for months. To no avail, I'll note.

The Jews of the Old Testament did not have God in God's entirety revealed to them. After the coming of Christ and the New Testament, God in God's entirety was revealed.

It is not "audacity" to state that Mormons aren't Christians--they aren't. The same with Jews, Mormons do not fully recognize God, and furthermore they go sort of crazy in believing that ordinary human creatures can become gods.

Allah definitely has aspects of God along with aspects from pagan gods. The name "Allah" was the name of a local moon god.

Be offended all you want--that is still the case, whether or not you want it to be so.

There’s actually a forum who’s main objective is to discredit FR?

That's so untrue it's pathetic. There have been sites like that in the past and I can assure you that WideAwakes is not an anti-Freep site.

Did you forget that you had already discussed this with Phikapmom before? Do you think you bided your time long enough till you found the right thread to annoy enough people in?

How dare you speak to My2Cents that way.

I apologize if the harsh language offended you, as I try my hardest to stay away from any sort of name-calling whatsoever.

However, FR is a special place online for me and to see someone who has been here longer than me ripping it left and right, throwing away their nine-year association with this site, it bums me out greatly.

I apologize for the name calling again, but the rest of my sentiment stands. People who make those sort of comments are a cancer on this site and are better off not even posting.

A good portion of these whiny men who complain about free speech aren’t conservatives at all. They’re a breed unto themselves. And it’s so strange how they support candidates who either haven’t announced or can’t win.

I believe that Newt and Mr. Thompson are in talks with the Romney or other campaigns for the VP slot. Just a feeling I’m getting. They would be very valuable to whomever gets them as a VP to allay fears Conservatives have about the name on the top of the ticket. Again, just a feeling but, it seems to make sense.

There is so much projection going on with the FRiberals, it’s amazing. They are acting exactly like the ‘Rats, they accuse conservatives of doing exactly what they themselves are doing.

If “WideAwakes” ISN’T an anti-FReep site, then why are they all there? What does that site offer them that FR doesn’t? At least the “DarwinCentral” crowd can make the argument that it was started to focus more on their anti-Christian scientific theories.

Keywords can be removed?

Yes

If so, then that begs the question of: why do some threads have so many outrageous keywords?

You need to notify the mods, otherwise he won't know. The mods can tell which posters add which keywords, BTW.

I’m glad you posted this. I love this site, but lately it’s been hard to read here. I know not all conservatives agree on all issues, but it seems some don’t understand or allow for any differences. It’s disheartening and discouraging to see our fellow conservatives doing the work of the opposition.
