DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

Gosh, given Rudy’s frontrunner status among Republicans in this country, I guess we’re all just dumb.

I guess you haven't noticed that his poll numbers have dropped dramatically? He has already "peaked" and that is not unusual, it just usually happens about nine months later which is one of the reasons that Newt Gingrich has been so critical of the campaign starting right after the mid-term elections.

What is a social moderate?

----------------------------------

In this freeper's (DCP) case it means giving free reign to illegals refardless of the social cost to America in closed ERs, stressed schools and sky-high violent crime. He is shocked that some of us here (most) put Americans first.

I've spent many long hours researching Giuliani's liberal views and mayoral history and posting it here in various forms. Yet none of the actual facts about Giuliani matters to the deluded liberal Rudy supporters. They just want to call it "hate" or "spam" or "irrelevant" and go on dividing this site, distracting from its conservative mission, while trying to elect the most liberal GOP presidential candidate in the history of the United States.

Many of us are grateful that you have.

We don't want to end up with the libmedia springing all this on us an October surprise in '08. And I believe that's exactly what they want. That's why they inflate his poll numbers and do puff pieces on him.

Rudy is the witting or unwitting stalking horse of the libmedia to destroy the conservative wing of the Republican party and render it politically moot. Their goal is to make our choices at elections into the choice of one of two flavors of very liberal candidates.

Rudi is their prototype. The goal is a political system that resembles the United States of Canada.

Thank you for all your work, Spiff. And for taking all those slings and arrows from liberals on behalf of the party of Reagan, the real Republican party as we have known it and supported it for so many years. From Reagan, through Gingrich, through Bush, the Republican party has stood for certain definite policy goals. Rudy is a return to the election-losing liberalism of the Rockefeller Republicans.

ALL OF THE OTHER GOP CANDIDATES SUPPORT THE WOT. You try to make it sound like Rudy is the only one.

How many times do we have to say this? RUDY IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN WIN.

LOL. You’re right, Jake. Thanks for the reminder.

Let me just leave it with this then and I’m off to more pleasurable pursuits:

One of the best articles by conservative FrontPage magazine on Rudy’s fiscal conservatism and law and order conservatism:
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=26604

The rebirth of New York City, the most visible urban achievement in the 20th century is the work of the person now dubbed America’s mayor. For the millions of Americans who live in New York and the millions more who work or whose livelihood has been affected by its revival the contrast between the pre and post Giuliani years could not be more striking.

His defense of Israel and intolerance for Arab and U.N. sponsored anti-Semitism is legendary.

He figuratively walked into the lion’s den of a crime ridden, high tax, and decaying city and carried out a conservative agenda of tax cuts, crime reduction and, in the case of the Brooklyn Museum, defense of religion in the public square. On this count Giuliani seems to be the winner in the public character category for his extraordinary vision and leadership.

Rudy also kicked Arafat out of a concert hall. This was back when it wasn’t fashionable and Clinton was hosting the terrorist in the White House as his most frequent guest.

How many times do we have to say this? RUDY IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN WIN.

How many times do you have to be told that there is little to support your assertion, and plenty of historical evidence to the contrary? Rudy never outpolled Hillary in the 2000 Senate race, even though he was sitting mayor and she was a carpetbagger. He is at the far left of the party, and that is not a position from which to hold the base. And he will have a very difficult time running leftward for votes as a pro-war candidate.

A quote from the article you linked:

A spokesman for the Clinton administration, which had done so much to build up Arafat’s reputation as a statesman, termed Giuliani’s action "an embarrassment to everyone associated with diplomacy."

Former mayors David Dinkins and Ed Koch held a joint press conference to denounce Giuliani. "Mayor Giuliani has behavioral problems dealing with other people," Koch told reporters."

Thanks for posting that Peach, I would have missed Rudy deciding he was Lord and Master of NYC had you not posted that.
