I don’t want to picture the scene where Mr and Mrs. Weasley, and George, find out.

Well, we do see the effect of that when Molly shouts the most memorable line of the book! My next most favorite line is by Hermione, after she tells off Scrimgeour regarding his misuse of the law.

"Are you planning to follow a career in Magical Law, Miss Granger?" asked Scrimgeour.

"No, I'm not," retorted Hermione. "I'm hoping to do some good in the world!"

I don’t know if I would have found him as intriguing if someone besides Rickman was playing him.

I can't imagine anyone doing a better Snape than Rickman does in the movies. The Mary Grand Pre illustrations of Snape look like a Snidely Whiplash character to me.

Tim Roth was originally offered the role of Snape and he turned it down. IIRC, he played “hunny bunny” in Pulp Fiction.

Boy, you people read fast! It took me nearly 14 hours, almost non-stop, to finish! I didn’t finish it until 3 am Sunday. I saw on the countdown thread that a couple of you were posting at 1:30 Saturday am that you had finished it! How in the heck did you do that?? I barely had the book in hand by then (B&N was a mess here, too)! I LOVED this book. LOVED IT! I think I cried through the last 200 pages. Sacrifice and redemption triumph over bigotry and cruelty. Love and loyalty win over self interest and apathy. From the obvious characters right down to the Grey Lady. One of you said JKR joins The Inklings with this book and I totally agree. Epic, yet very personal. It’s not flawless, but it’s brilliant. I even love the sappy epilogue (does anybody think there is significance in 19 years? Strange number). I wish she’d taken more time with Snape’s death. I wish we’d seen Lupin and Tonks deaths (it was awful to just see them lying there side by side with the dead), wish Tonks had survived, wish Fred had survived. Loved the part where all the parents, townspeople and creatures came pouring over the wall to join the fight. Loved setting the dragon loose (can’t wait to see that in the movie!)Loved Neville pulling the sword out of the Sorting Hat. Loved the Marauders walking Harry to meet his death. Loved DD and Harry in Kings Cross (very Gandalf/Frodo). Really loved Ron coming back, the whole sequence at the lake with the sword; Harry digging the grave and figuring it all out; seeing Snape’s love for Lily (the doe was genius), then Harry vindicating Snape in front of everyone (the wand thing was brilliant, brains over brawn); Molly taking out Bellatrix (Neville couldn’t have done it. Ginny is stronger than any of the girls and even with three on one they couldn’t take her down). And I love that she didn’t answer every question in the epilogue. Leaves room for more, and I really want more! I hope she’s already starting on the next series, timed to come out right after the last movie!

Don’t know if Rowlings knows that her books may end up saving a generation, but I will take to the mat anyone who suggests that Christians shouldn’t allow their children to read these books.

Isn't it ironic that so many Christians have taken a stand against a series that turns out to be so filled with Christian symbolism? I rejected that position way back when I read SS, against my pastor's advice. I felt like my church's position was just like The Daily Prophet, worrying about the appearance of evil while refusing to take a stand against the real evil in the world. My kids and I have read all the books multiple times. In fact, I sent a copy of DH to my 21 year old in the Navy, who couldn't wait to get his hands on it. I'm dying for all my kids to finish it so we can discuss it, like we've been doing for 10 years!

I never saw a spark between Hermione and Ron, so I wouldn't pair them in marriage.

Oh my, there's been something there since at least "Goblet of Fire"! Ron was so jealous of Krum paying attention to Hermione! And he's made comments about it ever since. I thought it was so cute that the first time she kissed him was when he suggested that they do something to make sure the House Elves were safe. Since they haven't mentioned S.P.E.W. in any o fthe movies, I guess they'll have to figure out some other way to bring that about in the last movie.

In the Order of the Phoenix movie, I noticed Ginny casting jealous glances at Harry when Cho is mentioned, or when he's with Cho. I'm sure that will become more evident in the next movie, but since it sounds as though they're not going to be doing any Quidditch in the Half Blood Prince movie either, they'll have to have some other plot device to get Harry and Ginny together.

Oh, I ‘m glad she put a ‘what happened to folks’ chapter on there, because most folks would have wanted to have some idea!

I thought the ending was slurpy. Syrupy-sticky.

Yeah, it was great! But then, I love a happy ending!

I nearly cried for Fred.

NEARLY?! I was blubbering like a baby, and it was even worse when I read about Remus and Tonks!

I think I was pulling for Snapes mostly because the actor's portrayal in the movies is such genius.

Oh yeah, Alan Rickman is major eye and ear candy for me. Just LOVE that guy and his velvet voice!

I once tried to read "Return of the Native" and almost fell asleep, it was so deadly dull. We were planning our annual drive South one year, so I went to the library to get some books on tape, and saw "Native", but read by Alan Rickman. It was great company because we drive straight through, and I do the overnight leg. I enjoyed that book immensely! ;o)

given Fred’s death, I’m glad it was Molly who got to go all Ripley on her (her line is going to bring down the house when the movie comes out).

ROTFL!! Ripley was my first thought, too, when I read that. One of my all time favorite movie lines! And yeah, folks will be cheering for Molly in the last movie; the screenwriters will definitely HAVE to use that one!

I wonder if he’s in a portrait in the headmasters office?

It didn't mention his portrait at the end of the book, and I wondered if that were because he was imposed on the school by the Ministry of Magic, and it was the school's way of not recognizing him as such. But Harry did remind his son, before he went off to Hogwarts, that he was named after two of the school's Headmasters.

I once tried to read "Return of the Native" and almost fell asleep, it was so deadly dull.

My high school English teacher made us read that one year. I got through maybe 20 pages then stopped. It's been 20 years and I still remember how dull that book was.

I’m also rather unclear - wasn’t the sorting hat burned?

Galbaraithian Fire?

Poor Mrs. Weasley, what did her clock say then?

That clock had all hand at "Deadly Peril" since Voldy came back.

I suspect the Fred hand fell off when he died.
