The Buzz About a McCain-Romney Ticket
The New York Times ^ | July 19, 2008 | MICHAEL COOPER and MICHAEL LUO

Posted on 07/18/2008 8:24:36 PM PDT by Plutarch

It was not so long ago that the idea that Senator John McCain would even entertain tapping Mitt Romney, his bitterest primary rival, as his running mate would have seemed preposterous, rating at least 7.0 on the strange-bedfellows scale.

The McCain-Romney feud was the juiciest of the Republican primary season, featuring two men who generally just did not seem to like each other. Mr. Romney said Mr. McCain would set a “liberal Democrat course as president.” He said that one of Mr. McCain’s proudest accomplishments, his campaign finance bill, took “a whack at the First Amendment,” and told voters grappling with money woes that Mr. McCain “has said time and again that he doesn’t understand the economy.” Mr. McCain, for his part, witheringly cast Mr. Romney as a flip-flopper.

But that was then.

These days Mr. Romney, a telegenic former Massachusetts governor, is serving as a wingman extraordinaire for Mr. McCain on cable television. He has dutifully raised money for Mr. McCain. And Mr. Romney has developed a reputation as a campaign surrogate who can talk fluently about the economy, and who has roots in Michigan, an important swing state.

Now Mr. Romney is attracting perhaps more buzz than anyone else as a potential running mate for the man he once derided... [excerpt]

Look, we know you love your liberals. Some of us around here are actually trying to keep McCain from losing being tied to that liberal fraud *omney. How’s that Deval Patrick working out for you ? Y’know, Slick Willard’s little Stalinist gift to his state.

I think Romney’s many recorded attacks on McCain’s positions and voting record make him a poor choice for VP.

I am not anti-Romney in general, but our opposition could make lots of anti-McCain ads using nothing but Romney footage.

Yes, I am. What’s so hillarious is seeing a puff piece in the New York Slimes, where our terrorist enemies get their news from, touting Slick Willard as VP. And I get called a liberal for opposing him ?!? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!

The ads wouldn’t work even if they tried them.

Mitt’s advantages outweigh his negatives big time.

He would bring so much to the ticket.

You’d believe Slick Willard could poop lollypops if he told you so. Don’t you have any dignity, Connie ?

It’s a sure sign of pending success. The opposition noise just gets louder, but that’s all it is... noise.

Instead of insulting me you should be supporting a candidate.

Again this makes me think you have no candidate.

Maybe you should go back to DU.

Until you pony up the bucks, time and effort to run this system, you can knock off this crud about telling posters where to go. Don’t like their opinions, then fine, disagree, debate them, but shutting down a poster because they don’t agree with you? That’s how liberals work, it’s called ‘group think’ and is probably one of the prime examples why I detest Romney so much.

Not because he promotes mandates from the federal government in the middle of a presidential debate, not because he’s the only governor /ever/ to sign legislation permitting homosexuals to corrupt the marriage system, not because he’s forcing socialized medicine down our throats, but because of group think RomBots who can’t /stand/ facing any form of question about their candidate.

So enough with the jerk responses.

Interesting..

It’s their last ditch effort to try and derail an actual Conservative getting into the race.

You’re EXACTLY right. The media will have a field day with this guy. There’s a reason he didn’t win the primary. It’s about character and substance. Slick Willard has none. Nothing but a shameful record of flipflops, fraud, and liberalism. How convenient he claims to “find” Conservatism AFTER he’s left the wreckage of his “leadership” behind him and just happens to be running for President.

Scarchin didn’t give a “jerk response”

And as for Romney.. he was governing in Liberal Massachusetts.

Are you telling me as Governor you could have done better?

Why is the liberal media pushing this...think folks...why do the liberals want a McCain-Romney ticket? If this is their idea ... then it’s an extremely bad idea.
