The Buzz About a McCain-Romney Ticket
The New York Times ^ | July 19, 2008 | MICHAEL COOPER and MICHAEL LUO

Posted on 07/18/2008 8:24:36 PM PDT by Plutarch

It was not so long ago that the idea that Senator John McCain would even entertain tapping Mitt Romney, his bitterest primary rival, as his running mate would have seemed preposterous, rating at least 7.0 on the strange-bedfellows scale.

The McCain-Romney feud was the juiciest of the Republican primary season, featuring two men who generally just did not seem to like each other. Mr. Romney said Mr. McCain would set a “liberal Democrat course as president.” He said that one of Mr. McCain’s proudest accomplishments, his campaign finance bill, took “a whack at the First Amendment,” and told voters grappling with money woes that Mr. McCain “has said time and again that he doesn’t understand the economy.” Mr. McCain, for his part, witheringly cast Mr. Romney as a flip-flopper.

But that was then.

These days Mr. Romney, a telegenic former Massachusetts governor, is serving as a wingman extraordinaire for Mr. McCain on cable television. He has dutifully raised money for Mr. McCain. And Mr. Romney has developed a reputation as a campaign surrogate who can talk fluently about the economy, and who has roots in Michigan, an important swing state.

Now Mr. Romney is attracting perhaps more buzz than anyone else as a potential running mate for the man he once derided... [excerpt]

Go back and wallow in all the soft porn you posted in your about page, and leave the real issues to people who actually care about conservative issues, not self indulgence.

Hey, nice pick up, sevenbak, on fieldmarshaldj's about page ! Everyone should check it out!

Here is a choice sample:

Looks like fieldmarshaldj goes through a lot of these:

Hey genius -

You’re not fooling anyone.

The M.O. of you Romney bashers is to hijack threads with insults and trash talk - no substance.

When you get it thrown back in your faces you jump on a stool, hold up your skirts, and cry.

Waaaaaah! Mean ole Romney supporters! Waaaah!

Just out of curiosity, as it doesn’t really matter now that this has been tossed into the back room, but how is it promoting your candidate, if that’s who you support as VP, to post someone’s about page? Is it just random entertainment at this point, or is it really a goal to degrade the thread even further than it has been?

Isn’t one reference to it a thread enough?

Save the Olympics from what?

By all accounts he did a good job. If China does a good job with their Olympics will it qualify the guy in charge to be Premier of China?

With all do respect, I like former Gov Romney but prefer Gov Palin or Rep Blackburn for VP if I have to choose. Gov Romney came around to mostly conservative positions and I respect that. Romneycare in Mass bothers me though.

Believe me, I do understand what you’re saying. This isn’t some casual thing. I’ve known this man for 14 years since his first campaign, he is a DANGEROUS fraud. He is no friend to the GOP, nor to Conservatives. He is a Trojan Horse Democrat, he disemboweled what was left of the MA GOP — DELIBERATELY — left the state to absolute control of the Stalinist left and the Gubernatorial equivalent of Obama. I’ve written about him endlessly exposing him and his fraud and deceit and liberal record. So have many other FReepers. I think the application I’ve termed is dead on the money. If you step back and do some research and disregard the talking points of his paid shills, you’ll see the real truth about what he has done, and it’s not pretty.

Yeah I can build websites.

I have a ping list with well over 150 Mitt supporters on it. :)

I think because of the huge impact Mitt had on the Olympics, that McCain will wait to pick him as VP until the games are in session. Mitt will be over there as part of the Olympic Delegation, and the cameras of the world will be right there to pick up the story. It will be perfect timing.

It wasn’t just a good job. He actually saved the Olympics from corruption through his leadership.

It’s not THE qualification.. but it is something to think about.

Especially when you look at all of his other positives.

Nice denial. But we’re glad to know that Slick Willard supporters are more than happy to have the anti-American far-left NEW YORK SLIMES choose the GOP Vice-Presidential candidate.

I think that would be PERFECT timing!

Mitt saved the Olympics and is picked as the VP during the Olympics.

Apparently you are too damn lazy to read the entire thread where this troll STARTED the fight AND you are unaware of flamingmarshald-lizious’s history of incessant and nonproductive bashing of Romney.

He’s getting the spanking he deserves.

Unfortunately, I think he’s probably “into” that sort of thing.

LOL.

Excellent post.

The guy doesn’t know that his “friend” accused every major Conservative in America of taking bribes to support Romney.

Yeah.. I’m sure Rush (who’s making 400 million) took money from Romney lol

fieldmarshal,

I consider myself a conservative first a Republican... well, I don't. I like Mitt. I have looked at thousands of threads. Many articles and his record.

He had tough moments while governing one of the most liberal states in our union, but he seems to be a good man, a good family man, a believer in God... even though not the way I believe, and a great economic wonder boy.

I really like Mitt and I think he would do a great job helping McCain with economic policies and #1 Drilling for our own Oil!

He could make a viable President, if anything unfortunate happened to our president. I wasn't a McCain supporter, and I was ready to write in Thomas Jefferson, but he has started to win me over. If he picks Romney, that will help me to get more excited. I want to support McCain, and I want to defeat the communist danger of Obama.

If Mitt is the way he is leaning, then please support this decision. Romney isn't a liberal and he would bring the McCain ticket more in line with our conservative values.
