My kids are all determined to homeschool their own children. The taste they got of the public schools in their senior year convinced them of that.

They all have friends in the public schools who have begged their own parents to homeschool them.

I’ve had neighbors public school kids ask me if I’d homeschool them.

Almost every kid I’ve talked to about school hates it and they all see the same problems with it.

They’ve become indoctrination centers, churning out mindless drones. The ones who excel are few and far between. The ones who don’t conform are either drugged into submission by the educrats and medical community, or expelled, or just quit on their own and end up making it up in the local community college.

Not until your little Buddy there has HIS!

No worries, I fired your son. He won't be getting any.

You can come pick him up anytime. He is out at the gate, crying. Again.

If a typo is a sign of intelligence, then you are definitely
guv’ment schooled to think that shallow.

And if that is the only argument you got to defend your initial denigration of homeschoolers, better find some online tutorials to up that IQ above 80.

Public school educated myself. So was my wife. Both of us have postgraduate technical degrees. But that was long ago. Now our kids are in private school, very similar to a homeschool format.

Very simple. Your idea that homeschoolers are wimps and not ready for life is just wrong. Wrong. I instruct several every year. Given my choice, I’ll take them every time. At least they

Your terse, asinine responses show a lack of civility and ability to argue intellectually. What I deal with daily from government educated students.

I try not to pick on people’s errors online. Unless of course it is just too outrageous. You know you have to say something when someone makes a grammar error while correcting someone else’s grammar. Of course, it is all in good fun not trying to prove that you are smarter. Everyone makes mistakes when typing and writing and it is hard to proofread your own work because you read what you expect to be there and not what is really there. Oh well, some people still need to grow up.

Yeah....

You know what’s a real indictment of public schools?

I learned more homeschooling my kids through 4th grade than I learned all through my 12 years in public school, and that was back in the 60’s and 70’s when they actually taught students something, rather than just indoctrinating them.

That’s likely why colleges have to give aptitude tests for math to see where the entering freshmen should be put.

There are a whole slew of remedial math courses for kids who do poorly on that test. Those teach the basic math skills like division and fractions, that kids don’t even know coming out of public school.

One day, my son was on the bus for a soccer game and the other guys were trying to figure out some math problem. They pulled out their calculators and started doing the calculations that way. Before they even finished, he had the answer and told them what to expect. They all worked on it anyway, couldn’t all come up with and answer they agreed on. When they finally did, it was what my son calculated mentally in a fraction of the time. They could not understand how he could do that in his head so fast.

I made sure that my kids KNEW, and I mean really KNEW their math facts before they were allowed to touch a calculator. I only allowed that once they got into algebra as a time saver, and they only used it if absolutely necessary. They found it took less time to do it mentally.

Later in the article Ms. West says, “Homeschooling is now such an entrenched practice, recriminalization is not a viable option in any event.” It appears that Ms. West is suggesting that she would not oppose regarding homeschoolers as criminals?

*Recriminalization*? Nice of her to slip like that and let us know what the liberals would like to do about homeschooling given the chance. Nanny statism at its finest.

Do you remember HR6?

Saxon. I know a few people who don’t care for it, but it is by far and away the best I’ve run across.

Funny thing is, there is one school district I know that actually switched to Saxon for their grade school because all the homeschoolers used it and had great standardized test scores.

One guess what their scores did the next year.
