Click “Organize Bookmarks”. Drag the lines off.
Off hand, try opening ‘organize bookmarks’ and deleting the separators (purposeless lines).
If your install of firefox is messed up, try reinstalling. If that fails, export your bookmarks, uninstall firefox (along with personal settings), then fresh install and import your book marks back into the browser.

Yes. Those last two are permanent. They separate the menu on top from the list on the bottom.
Click on “tools” then click on “options” then click on “settings”, then click on “remove damnable lines”

On a side-note. It is wise to password protect your passwords in firefox. My son just had to reformat his hardrive to prevent any more security leaks in his browser. Seems that he picked up some sort of virus that pulled out and sent all his passwords to an ip address in Nigeria, resulting in a mass funding transfer parade. Cost him thousands. PASSWORD PROTECT YOUR PASSWORDS.
It provides for tagging bookmarks with names like "political", "tech", "video" etc. and then setting up a toolbar for any particular tag. So you can have as many toolbars as you like and just pick the one you want to use at any given time. Very easy to switch back and forth. It's a thing of beauty.
