My I fear is that with all the heated emotion and passion folks have been exhibiting regarding candidates, it would be a shame to waste it and just sit back and grumble for the next 4 years. I think it would be wise to prep the battlefield as best we can for next time.

Totally agree about the primary being all screwed up. Why can’t all states vote on the same day? Why does it have to be so drawn out and only half the states get a say in who will be the nominee? Heck, most folks even called it for Mittens after the first primaries. It’s stupid.

Understandable. My suggestion is that, first, we get Obama out of office with a Republican, regardless. Then, take control of the Senate and get more seats in the House with the right people. The right people is the key. Then we have to control our states. With control of the states, you have control of Congress. By controlling the Congress, you have control over anyone in the Oval Office.

The GOP primary process is a mess that seems guaranteed to favor RINOs

I don't think so. Conservatives just need to come up with a candidate who the vast majority of Republicans see as electable. They didn't do it this time.

All other thoughts and speculations aside (ID's closed primaries, all good ideas...), there is a glaring issue that EVERYONE needs to keep in mind.

Not just for now, today, until the election but from now on.

And as per usual it is just a small item that makes the entire situation clear.

From the article "Timing of Gingrich exit from GOP race has observers scratching their heads" in The Hill...

It’s unclear the role Gingrich will be able to play, especially after alienating much of the Republican establishment by overstaying his welcome in the presidential race.

"the Republican establishment"

What needs to be corrected is the republican establishment's concept that we accept what they want.

They work for us, the voters, NOT the other way around.

Yesterday, I saw a post, don't remember from who, regarding the Primary process. Basically it said the TEA Party and conservatives need to have a general and binding "primary" of their own to rank, vet and select from all potential candidates whom they will (and will not) support.

This needs to be done BEFORE any of the other primaries.

With that information the gopees can then proceed at their own risk.

The primary goal is to get the conservative base on the same team with the best candidate. Yes that is a tough job but it is where we consistently fall short.

If the gopees try to go with a candidate that got a failed rank, they have no one to cry to except themselves. They MUST start responding to the will of the conservative base, or that conservative base will be GONE.

No more McCains. This Republic is on the verge of being lost to communism FROM BOTH PARTIES.

If we are going to do anything to fix the mess we find ourselves in, we will have 4 years until the next presidential election.

If Mutt wins, change '4' to '8'. Effective change may well be impossible by that point.

It occurred to me that in order to be intellectually consistent and honest that there should be huge TEA Party rallies after the election; especially if Romney is elected.

The first step is getting people involved again, and letting the powers that be, whomever they are, know that we are still out here.

First I am voting for Mittens. I will hold my nose but if anyone here has an ounce of sense they will do the same. Don’t argue with me because I am right. Tough. Grow up. Mittens is easily swayed. That is the key for you too stupid to understand it. We have the power to control this clown. He will be as conservative as we make him. The ball is in our court. DO YOU IDIOTS REALLY WANT OBAMA FOR FOUR MORE YEARS? I will vote for a ham sandwich before giving it to Bambi.
Now on to the real issue. You pose a good question. What do we do next.
Every FReeper needs to be a member of their local Tea Party.
In my county we are working to run the place.
We got rid of a blue dog dem. who was woolgathering for the last 20 years. We got rid of a RINO state senator. We are getting rid of the RINO we replaced the blue dog with. We have power and the locals know it.
Get off your ass and off the comuputer and get involved. All I hear here is whinning.
Oh I don’t like Mittens. Tough. Man and woman up and get
pragmatic. Our country has been in the crapper for almost 100 years. You think we are going to fix things overnight?
Get into the local party. We are. We have members appointed to various committees etc. If the RINO’s are too packed where you live think infiltration. Pretend you are a good ole’ boy to get in. Get others in. Then take it over. FIGHT. Quit whinning. I give lectures on the Supreme Court and the Constitution. I am trying to get on a local REpub. board. Push up from the bottom. That’s how its done. We are doing it down here.
