As a Christian, I’m thinking about this parable about a man with a log in his eye ... Nevermind
You perfectly expressed what I feel as well. I’m pretty close to signing off for good. This place has become like facebook, which I signed off from for the same reasons.
Ignore them...it’s not that hard.
There is truth in what you posted.
Don’t go! You singled me out (it brought tears to my eyes) so please let me plead with you not to leave! Let’s not give in to the bigots!
Please write me privately if you don’t feel like posting.
Good luck to you and may God bless you.
I received this message from the Religion Moderator regarding Key words received 03/02/2015 8:45:19 PM PST
DO NOT use keywords to snipe at other posters or beliefs. RM
I certainly did not post key words that sniped at anyone; they were terms such as "enough already, Christianity, unity and "peace." Now, yes, the comments I made were invectives thrown at posters. I don't deny that; but they deserved every word directed at them and more. Outside of Caucus threads the religious forum is based on sniping at posters and insulting other's beliefs. Mostly its a few alleged Evangelicals damning those Papists, pedophiles, pagans, cracker-eaters, cannibals and Mary-worshipping heretics to Hell if they don't convert to the Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism or the Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879. Then a very small contingent of Catholics tries to fight back.
Woudja look at that? A bitter opus!
I also have experienced more mean spirited keyboarding than is needed on the faith threads.
The issue here is intent.
There are people that post religious articles/issues that explain something. Then there are people that post articles/issues that are really just a vehicle to slam those not of their opinion, under a veneer of being innocent information.
When you have backhanded slams at others in the articles, the intent is more than just merely explaining a denominational difference. It’s explaining it while taking a shot at others held in contempt for not being you.
What makes it more insulting is when the very same people doing this, then complain that others are doing the same thing to them and that they are the only ones suffering from unfair attacks. It’s a total lib/socialist Alinsky method of accusing your enemy of doing what you’re doing to them.
Some here argue that this stuff is worthwhile because it changes minds. I disagree. The few that may benefit are dwarfed by far far more who see negative benefit from a topic that degrades into a shouting match and insults. Far more people are turned off rather than helped.
There are ways to discuss differences without jabbing the other denomination. Of course there will be some people that can never take any criticism but the tone of the article/posting can be seen and most people will be able to tell if the intent was to incite, or to inform.
Mirror shortage?
I, too, have felt disgust at the sniping. We do have a responsibility to quote scripture if scripture is taken out of context and theology discussed (I have been working on a topic for months) but our language should be glorifying to our God and beloved Savior if we are representing Him and speaking His words.
I was born into Catholicism but at 6 in an independent Schofield Baptist church learned about my sin and the salvation offered through the death of Jesus. He died in my place. Since then I have never been a member of any church. I consider myself a follower of Yeshua Messhiah and believe there are 7 churches as found in Revelation. Whether these are denominations or individual spiritual personalities, I have yet to decide. Either way, I know there are Christians of every nation, tongue, tribe, and people all over the world.
The time of tribulation of the churches seems to be near. I will continue to post scripture in response to religion threads because I am really bad when it comes to writing. My grammar is atrocious at times, I write like Paul with super long sentences, and after 55 years I still don’t know when to use commas. But I will quote Paul...
” 15 Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will; 16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; 17 the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment. 18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice.”
Great post that adds understanding to why I try NOT to post on the religion threads. I’ve seen comments that no one would ever say face-to-face to another human being.
There is not much that divides and breaks down the FRee Republic community like the Religion Forum does.
If JR would abolish it - there would be greater harmony and more $$$ to the FReepathons.
Good luck. The kooks will be out to get you soon. Nothing here will change. Both sides guilty. Meanwhile our country circles the drain...
Perhaps you should simply avoid the religion forum.
You'd be wrong.
You said ... “This was a great site, ten plus years ago. Hopefully it can be one again. Goodbye.”

Nowadays, everyone is hammering everyone else, if they are not exactly on the same track as they are. BUT, I do have to say that when someone is in the “Religion Forum” (that’s the only place the Religion Moderators are at) ... it’s one of the best moderations for religion that I’ve seen. They are very good there.
ELSEWHERE, though, it can be a nightmare. I think you mentioned Apple threads. What happens there is that you have Freepers who HATE Apple, and they will go onto every Apple thread and insult all those who like the Apple products. Those Freepers are part of the APPLE-HATER CULT that attacks on all those threads.
And so, you’ve got the same mentality on ALL OTHER SUBJECTS ... and it’s nothing but ATTACK.
I post a thread and I will normally get attacked on the thread ... GUARANTEED!
Will it go back to the way it was 15 years ago? No ... I don’t think so!

I’m willing to bet I stand a good chance of being ATTACKED on this post ... LOL ...
Never give up. I have had several comments yanked, but one thing I will not do is condemn fellow Christians, whether they be Catholic, Presbyterians, Methodists, Mormons, and the rest of the lot. I lean most to Southern Baptist teachings, but I accept all Christians. Paul started 7 churches and Peter one. Members of all are my Christian brothers and sisters. From these 8 churches started so long ago, as expected over the centuries, others have taken root.
If Jesus is there, they are all in my family.
