What's the smokey backroom? Smokey Backroom ^

Posted on 08/18/2002 8:33 PM Central by Itsfreewill

Jim posted a message to the moderators,

Mods: The Smokey Backroom is here. This forum is setup for those who want a little more heated debate. I'm recommending that we allow a little more rule bending here. We don't want the racist stuff or the propaganda, but we can allow the people to let their hair down a bit. Spitting, biting, hair pulling and cursing allowed as long as they don't go to extremes. I'm thinking we can also move out of control flamewar threads to this forum rather than deleting them.

Forum internal name: backroom Topic: heated.

The Smokey Backroom is an enter at your own risk forum. We're going to relax the rules a bit here, as far as heated debate is concerned. This is where you can roll around in the mud and the blood and the beer, so to speak. And if someone gets a piece of his ear bitten off and lets out a curse word or two, he probably won't get banned (as long as he doesn't make a habit of going overboard).

In other words, some of the rules may be loosened up a bit in this forum. But not the rules against racism, or leftist propaganda, etc. That kind of stuff is still not welcome on FR. If a flamewar breaks out on FR, we may ask the flamers to take it to the backroom.

Or, in some instances, we may move entire threads here. This is an alternative to deleting them. We'll be playing it by ear for awhile and see how it is received.

This is not to say that we're going to welcome vicious or nasty attacks, libel or slander, but if some of you wish to get a bit heated and all of the participants involved have thick skins and are not going to cry about it, here's the place.

So who were the thin skinned cry babys for the two deleted threads (Stupid Church Tricks & Stupid Church Tricks - Version 2)???

It seems to me that there are two subjects which are somehow verbotten on Free Republic, Masonic Temple Rites and Mormon Temple rites. I wonder if we posted the Jewish Temple rites that are set forth in scripture that the thread would get pulled? Or if we posted some Hindu or Bhuddist temple rites?

It seems that whenever the light of truth is shone upon the LDS beliefs and practices they not only hide their own eyes, but they insist that everyone else's eyes be closed to it as well.

I don't know what rule they think we are violating here. I don't recall any personal attacks, profanity, racism or violence. Just the plain hard truth that the LDS Church is as far from Orthodox Christianity as Islam is from Judaism. That's a fact. If anyone takes it personally, then they don't have any idea what a personal attack is.

So which one of you LDS Guys is going to fess up to having the threads pulled? And if it is not to hide the truth of your beliefs and practices, then why can't you live with a little light on your religion?

Is your religion so fragile that the light of truth will facture it into little pieces. I think from the fact that you guys get the threads pulled whenever things aren't going your way that, indeed it is!

The temple and its ceremonies are sacred to us. I will try to shed light on any other doctrine, but the temple rites I will not. And that is pretty much all I have to say on the matter.

Did you ask for the thread to be deleted? The Bible contains the entire Jewish Temple Ritual. It is there in the open. And it ain't pretty. It was also considered sacred, but it was not "hidden." So if the Jewish Temple rites are published for all to see, why is the LDS Temple ritual hidden? What do you have to hide?

I'm not hiding anything. If you are so curious about what goes on in the temple, you can fulfil the conditions for going to the temple and seeing for yourself firsthand what goes on there. Any worthy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the privilege of attending the temple. I can post some links to what information can be said publicly, but that is as far as I will go.

PS. No, I did not ask for the threads to be deleted. Note that I seldom appear on those threads, they are counterproductive. You aren't going to change my mind and I'm not going to change yours.

Here's some heavy reading for y'all:

Alexander Cambell refutes the book of Mormon

The actual refutation starts a little over halfway through the article. And note the date of the writing.

This is why I love Jesus Christ and the bible, no secrets.

The only secrets in true Christianity are in Gods heart, not some human.

All I can say is, "WOW!"

This will add to the sayings of the "still, small voice in the night".

Since we ALREADY have these truthful assurances.....................

Colossians 2:1-10

 1.  I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.
 2.  My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
 3.  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
 4.  I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments.
 5.  For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is.
 6.  So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him,
 7.  rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
 8.  See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.
 9.  For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,
 10.  and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

1 Thessalonians 1:6-7
 6.  You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
 7.  And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.

2 Timothy 1:8-10
 8.  So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
 9.  who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
 10.  but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

2 Peter 1:2-4
 2.  Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
 3.  His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
 4.  Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

1 John 5:20-21
 20.  We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
 21.  Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

.....why are ANY of the Mormon religious practices needed?

UG that is the issue..OPH is Eastern Orthodox..they have many sacred ceremonies..yet last year I attended a vesper service in an Orthodox church ..I was warmly greeted and my questions on the service and some of the traditions were answered for me

Baptism is a sacred sacrament to Roman Catholics, but any one of any faith can come and observe...

I can go to any Protestant Christian church this week and the doors will be open for me to observe or participate. Most have a believers communion...so it is your conscience that determines your level of participation on communion Sundays.

There are not paswords or "secret" rooms

I have one question ...IF it is the will of God that men find the truth and choose to accept it why would He hide it behind closed doors?
