LIBERTARIANS; THE SOCIALIST'S BEST FRIEND
THE LOGICAL VIEW ^ | 11/06/02 | MARK A SITY

TIME FOR AN END TO THE CONSERVATIVE INFIGHTING MARK A SITY 11/6/02

When WI taxpayers burden skyrockets, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When Milwaukee and the surrounding area are saddled with a light rail system few want, and no one will ride, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When caps on property taxes are removed, and property taxes skyrocket, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When welfare reform is de-reformed in WI, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When public schools in WI get even worse, and the public school teachers get huge raises, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When WI residents find their rights to defend themselves against criminals who break into their homes weakened, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When companies leave WI, or decide not to set up shop here due to our repressive tax structure, we have Ed Thompson to thank. When Gov Jim "bingo" Doyle rewards his contributors, at the expense of the taxpayers (as he has a history of doing), we have Ed Thompson to thank.

Who is Ed Thompson? Ed is the brother of Tommy, our former governor; the current HHS Secretary. Ed was the Libertarian candidate for governor in WI. Ed gave the Governor's Mansion to Bingo Jim by getting 10% of the vote. Governor McCallum lost the election by only 3%. Thanks Ed.

IL can say much the same for Cal Skinner. I don't know how much of the vote Cal got, but it is likely that Jim Ryan would have won there rather than the Democrat were it not for Cal. One good thing for WI residents over IL residents; at least we can pronounce and spell Bingo Jim's name. I won't even try either for the IL Governor Elect!

Let's keep in mind that Libertarians and Republicans are generally going in the same direction. True, the Republicans don't want to go as far as Libertarians, and there are some very contrary views. However, both generally want a smaller federal government that is less intrusive. Democrats on the other hand want bigger and bigger government. They want hand outs. They want dependency. They want Socialism rather than freedom! They want gun control rather than criminal control. They want ignorant sheeple rather than an informed, educated self-dependent population. I prefer much of the Libertarian agenda to that of the Republicans, but I find the Democrat agenda totally repulsive. Libertarians often hand elections to the Democrats, by taking away conservative leaning votes. When a Libertarian candidate's message resonates with the public; Democrats win! A Democratic win doesn't help Republicans, Libertarians, or Constitutionalists! It sets back all of our causes. It is well past time for Libertarians and Republicans to get together to defeat the common enemy. We can work out our differences later; let's get rid of the common threat first! As far as my views; neither Libertarians nor Republicans go far enough; I am a Constitutionalist! Yet, I generally vote Republican; I'm a realist. When we break the stranglehold of the left, then we can fight each other; but let's fight each other on our terms, not theirs!

Now, as far as Ed Thompson goes; well I have to steal a line from one of my favorite movies (They Call Me Trinity). I'm not mad at Ed, I'm mad at his ma. She should have strangled him, or at least drown him when he was born.

Ah yes, the "waah, that spoiler took my votes" syndrome. Maybe if the GOP candidate had done something to, you know, inspire the support of the Ls... it's the same song and dance the Dems have about the Greens.

I see more common ground between the dems and the reps than I do with the libertarians/Reps anymore. I'll stay with the .067% group

This columnist's view does not hold water. George Bush is in the White House because third party Greens voted against Al Gore in Florida.

Unlike many died-in-the-wool Conservatives, Libertarian voters are IN the voting booth on election day.

Conservatives have only to send crystal clear coherent Constitutional messages to get Libertarians to split ticket vote. I do it all the time.

The only regret I've ever had was when I voted for a RINO who became the DemocRAT's best friend in office.

Now I say, when in doubt vote Libertarian.

Remember the most consistent Conservative Republican in office today is former Libertarian Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. Would that we had a few hundred more like him.

Best regards,

Its an ignorant argument and they know it. If we simply take a look at the margin Biskupic lost by then we know the margin Mc would have lost by.

Ah yes, the "waah, that spoiler took my votes" syndrome. Maybe if the GOP candidate had done something to, you know, inspire the support of the Ls.

Here in Florida, we had several State House and Senate seats where Democrats ran unopposed by Republicans, but there was a Libertarian opponent(there were a few where it was a Rep. vs. Lib, too). In most races, the Libertarian got 20% to 25%. Guess what? That means that in some cases, the refusal of Republicans to vote for a Libertarian, when there was NO Rep. running, put Democrats in the government.

Blame yourselves, Republicans, for your losses and for "socialists" winning.

So Steve, you don't mind paying people not to work? You don't mind paying teens to have kids and drop out of school? You don't mind having your right (and the means)to defend yourself and your family in your own home taken away from you? The Republican's don't share your world view 100%, so you'll give an election to a Democrat/Socialist/Nazi? Do you really want the Feds telling you that you can't buy an SUV or pick-up truck? These are all things that the Dems stand for. They also stand for letting criminals on the streets. They don't mind rapists or child molesters. Heck, they want child molesters to live in your neighborhood; and they don't want you to know who they are!

Yet, you'll stand on "pricipal"; right?

The Republicans are trying to go in the right direction when compared to the Socalist/Democrat party. Sure, they don't go nearly far enough, they want to stop 1/4 of the way there. However, the S/D party is going in the opposite direction. Which train will take you closer to your goal?

I thought it would be interesting if the Democrat party fell apart and the major two parties in the US became Republican and Libertarians.

'Tis a pity the Pubbies won't "vote for their principles" once in office. Were that to happen, they might just hang onto a few more "small l" votes.

You make my point exactly! Let the Socialists do the infighting while we team up! We can get rid of the extreme left and maybe their hold on the liberal indoctrination centers like schools and the press. We can sort out our diferences after they are out of power! Let's get the debate on our terms for a change, instead of theirs!

Your logic is faulty in that the Libertarian Party is based upon humanist moral-liberalism, with more in common with the Democratic, Greens, or Worker's World Parties.

That is EXACTLY what I am saying here; we need to team up to defeat the common enemy! Would I vote for a Libertarian over a D/S; heck yes! Would I vote for a Libertarian over a Republican? Maybe; but only if I didn't think it would put the seat in the hands of the D/S party!

It is well past time to recognize who the common enemy is! There are a couple. One is Osama been-'ludin, another is Tom Dashole! We need to get rid of both of them!

That would be a dream come true! But, unless we form a coalition to get rid of them; it will never happen. That is EXACTLY what I am trying to say here!

While I am VERY excited about a trifecta for the GOP, and all it means to the DNC, I will wait to see what the GOP will do over the next two years that it holds the House, Senate, and Presidency.

Will we get the serious changes that this country needs to keep from getting closer to a total breakdown? Will the GOP throw it all away under the guise of "bi-partisanship"?

Frankly, I have high hopes, but will be cautious on declaring victory for now.

The gop has a great opportunity now to forever win back the libertarian voters.

There is now nothing preventing the President and congress from restoring our republic to what the Founders intended.

I'm looking forward to the overhaul, it's 60 years overdue.

Libertarian - liberty - freedom. I don't know where you are getting the idea that Libertarians have much in common with the D/S party. All the Libertarians I know don't want the Feds holding their hand at every step of their life. Nor do they want the Feds taking most of their income. Nor do they want the Feds telling them what they can or can't drive to and from work.

I believe you may be confusing the Libertarians with Jessie Jackaxx!

I totally agree with you here...but your title just sounds like an invite for a LP bash-fest. Just my $0.02.
