Actually, Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie and many other counties in the vicinity of Gainesville are majority democrat. Alachua is the only liberal county in North Central FL, but not by a long shot the only democratic county. I know people in office in some of these areas who are as conservative as I am, and openly so, but who could never have been elected if they weren't democrats.
But if you are interested I also picked up the 1996 results for baker county
Clinton 2,273
Dole 3,684
or in 1992
Clinton 1,974
Bush 3,417
Looks like they backdated the conspiracy to 1992
