Sky Harbor Airport Ignores Gunny Bob With Unfortunate Results

Posted on 06/30/2005 7:15:33 PM PDT by GunnyBob

Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix now wishes it had listened to me and done everything I said they should do to make their airport secure.

Three years ago, the CBS affiliate in Phoenix (Channel 5 KPHO) hired me to do an investigative report on security at Sky Harbor and elsewhere in Phoenix. With the Channel 5 "I-Team" and veteran investigative journalist Morgan Loew in tow, I commenced to penetrate airport security at every turn. In broad daylight I even accessed a "restricted" tunnel that leads right under the runways and was never detected.

One of the recommendations I made to the airport was to install command-activated anti-vehicle intrusion devices (AVIDs) at every vehicle gate leading onto airport property so that guards could activate them and stop any vehicle making a high-speed run onto the runways and/or apron. I also suggested vehicle intrusion ditches be dug inside the entire fence line. The money to do this simple stuff would have come from federal grants.

Despite my background, experience and reputation, Sky Harbor decided I was crazy and did not install the AVIDs or VIDs.

So what just happened? Go to http://www.kpho.com/Global/story.asp?S=3541908&nav=23KtbdtU to watch.

When are these incompetent, negligent buffoons running our airports going to wake up?

Sadly, never. . .they are, after all, government employees now and DON'T have to work (and can't be fired).

Though, must admit, there has been improvement at Sky Harbor within the last year. . .as far as TSA screeners go. Still goons and all, but they are nicer about it (it's a start). Reagan National TSA screeners are the absolute worst and the most unprofessional and rudest I have ever encountered.

A nut drove his truck through a fence and around the tarmac for a while before they stopped him, after he found a fence he couldn't get through.

Damned If I Know

Is this a trick question?

Asking when government parasites aren't going to be parasites? Only when the host is dead or rids itself of the parasites.

My admiration to you for your ability to think and reason at a high level, though. It is still too rare these days.
