COLIN POWELL PRAISES OBAMA ON EVE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE PRIMARY...
The Nation ^ | 1/07/2008 | Ari Melber

Posted on 01/08/2008 12:17:41 AM PST by Rudder

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell praised Barack Obama on the eve of the New Hampshire primary, crediting the Illinois Senator for breaking barriers while running as "an American man" who can represent the entire nation. In an interview with PBS host Tavis Smiley, Powell said he was "taking joy" in Obama's rise and he said citizens across the country can "enjoy this moment where a person like Barack Obama can knock down all of these old barriers that people thought existed with respect to the opportunities that are available to African Americans."

Powell, the first black person to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, National Security Advisor, and Secretary of State, also firmly rebutted the idea that reporters or voters should assess whether a candidate is white or black "enough."

This argument about him not being black enough, that's just absolute nonsense. He is putting himself forward not as a black man but as an American man who wants to be president of the United States of America. We should see Barack as a candidate for president who happens to be black, and not a black candidate for president.

No, I think “scumbag” is the right word. He (and Armitage) let the rats and their media allies rake the Bush Administration over the coals for a year over the fabricated Plame scandal, all the while knowing who the source of the “leak” was. (Scooter I don’t care about - - he’s a moron.)

>”Powell was never a Republican. Now, he reveals that race is more important to him than party.”<

-well said. Powell is, and always has been an opportunist.

He freaks me out too. We can beat Hillary!. Half the nation hates her guts. But this guy makes the sheeple feel good about themselves. They don’t care what he advocates. They dont even know. They just know he would be the first-sorry-second Black President. And the MSM fall all over him because they want to say look we’re not racist, lets all hug and sing kumbaya. Never mind he’s a complete lightweight and the only sure thing about him is that your taxes will go up. If he gets the nomination, and if Hillary! doesn’t have him Vince Fostered before the election, I get a bad vibe about november. If we criticize anything the man says we will be pounced on by the liberal media.
Even I am squeamish criticizing him to friends.
He has friendly black man teflon.

Playing the race card is going to come back to bite the Democrats in the ass. This class warfare (white vs. black) to try to intimidate white voters to support a Muslim/non-qualified candidate to "be diverse-sympathetic or be a racist" ploy is not going to work. It works on their voter base, due to the bottom of the gene pool and economic ladder constituting the vast majority of their support.

It doesn't bother me at all to be told "you won't vote for Osama just because he's black" as the response as to WHY he is not a legitimate qualified candidate are endless. The "Great Black Hope" is all he represents, and no matter WHICH top five Republican candidates you name, they ALL are far more qualified for POTUS than this phoney.

[old barriers that people THOUGHT existed]

To me, that part of his statement is the most important. For many, many years some black leaders have made a very good living portraying this country as racist.

Even if Obama DOESN”T win the election, the words of the likes of race baiter’s (Rev.} Sharpton or (Rev.) Jackson and their ilk will ring hollow and without merit.

This is the OTHER important result from the results of Iowa which can and should be a vindication of the white American and a sounding rebuke of those who rely on race baiting and hatred for an opulent lifestyle.

Now THAT’S change.

Obama was impressive 4 years ago at their convention. I watched his speech at that time and was quite unnerved by him.

He is a smooth, fast-talker. Indeed I had other thoughts about him as well that register a need for tin-foil.

Let’s just say he frightens me as much as Imanutjob from Iran. We’re able to dissect Imanutjob’s rhetoric and define his threat, but Obama is much more smooth and deadly as one can tell from the sheeple gathering around him.

It is not the fear of losing the Whitehouse etc. My fear of him is much more carnal.

Thank you for not listing all those accomplishments AGAIN! I know they are pretty impressive, and there’s just so many of them, but I don’t have time to wade through the list again. It’s hard to decide which of his many accomplishments tops the list.

And besides, it has to make the other candidates feel really inferior when they compare what they’ve done with their lives and public service to what he’s done with his.

</sarcasm>

I worked with, and for, someone just like Powell. A minority who was very sharp, very impressive and totally capable. A man whose skills and talent would give him the leeway to take some really unpopular stands, but somehow he always seemed to be too aware of his race. When the chips were down he would side with “the man” and turn his back on those in the firm who were the ones doing the real work and making the whole thing rock along.

This is exactly how I see Colin Powell.

looks like Powell still has his rah rah section her eh?

(post deleted)

or is it verboten here to dare mention Obama is (shudder) half white?

Obama runs as a black man because it favors him, if he ran as a half white guy he’d be nobody.

I guess if Obama gets the nod, we will have to post here like Bill O’Butthead is reading every post.

Did he happen to mention which of Obama’s positions it was that made him support Obama above any other candidate? I didn’t read the article, but considering that Obama thinks the Iraq war was illegal, and that Powell helped it come about, that this is a bit like Rumsfeld announcing he supports Hillary.

-that’s a very astute observation.
Compare Powell to Bill Cosby: Cosby took a very unpopular stand, against the rap/gangsta culture, and the way young inner city black young men are encouraged to act/talk.
Cosby may be a liberal in a some ways, but I respect him far more then I will ever respect Powell, who has turned his back on those who supported him.

Regards
