McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

This is the way politics work. The majority of the delegates in that room did not want Romney, and they cooperated to reach that result. What is wrong with that?

By the way, I voted for Romney today.

McCain is going to be more hated than any democrat ever could have been, it’s so strange that he thinks he can reach conservatives, it’s bewildering really, do you think he really knows how much we want Romney to win? Oh, well, I’m not losing sleep over it, like I said, I will vote for a democrat in this election if McCain wins and feel very good about it too.

Before there’s 2000 replies all talking about conspiracy theories about McCain and Huckabee..

Why doesnt everyone take a deep breath first..and look at the way WV conducts their convention..

Its a very simple process..if no candidate gets 50 +1 on the first ballot, it goes to a 2nd ballot..where everyone is free to vote again.

My advice to Team Romney would be in quoting him. “No whining”.... Team Romney couldn’t close the deal again.. So..lets see here...that makes..Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and now West Virginia where Mitt Romney arrogantly thought winning was a fait accompli..and ended up getting beat because of his arrogance.

Huck gets his money from the same place that the little boy got the loaves and fishes. Huck said so.

“Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee’s side as to avoid a Romney victory.”

I don’t get it. Wouldn’t it avoid a Romney victory if they voted for McCain? Why did they have to vote for Huck to avoid a Romney victory?

Back room deals are not new to us in W.Va., but this is just heartbreaking. McCain will not get my vote....ever.

While you may not like McCain or Huckabee, you can understand why they didn’t like all the negative ads being run against them

he didn't run negative ads against them. Romney told the truth about them...it just seemed negative. Truth hurts.

We’ll see if you are still laughing when real conservatives (unlike you) reject McCain and stay home.

Any expected date when there'll be real conservatives back in the race to not reject? We've got the Huckster, Mitt "I like mandates" Romney and John "Keeting who?" McCain.

If a real conservative is one who won't vote for a liberal, there's plenty to reject.

I’d like to call this primary season “How evangelicals destroyed the conservative coalition and thereby made themselves irrelevant in electoral politics forever”.

What happened here was perfectly legal and pure, hard core politics.

Legal or not, it's still wrong and reeks of Clintonian politics. Here's hoping for a monumental backlash.

Keep the news to only McCain getting 1 percent

There's one silver lining: This will stink even to the clueless.

Slick Willard certainly was the one outsmarted, even though I was given specific assurances that he’s the smartest guy in any room.
