>> McCain is a patriot who is misguided on some things. Hillary wants to burn the house down... I don’t think McCain will redefine Conservatism either. Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford and Bush 41 didn’t. And I think we can all agree that these presidents were far preferable to their opponents.

Duly noted. Even though I don’t agree with you in all aspects, you make a level-headed case. Clearly we want (and are agonizing over) the same things — I guess I’m just a shade (!) more pessimistic about JMC than you are.

As I’ve said elsewhere, at this point I haven’t decided whether to hold my nose and vote JMC or skip the POTUS vote. (I WILL be at the polls, come hell or high water, to vote in the down-ballet races.)

FWIW, Mrs. Tick and I gave substantially to both W and the RNC in 2004, but it’s highly unlikely I’ll open the pocketbook for JMC — and even less likely I’ll open it for the RNC. My guess is, there are others like us. I wonder what effect that lack of enthusiasm support-wise might have this year.

You too, my friend, I am glad that, for the most part, this has been a civil discussion (and on your part it 100% has).

I think Hillary will galvanize the GOP. Obama is another matter. That man is slick. Still, it looks like it will be Hillary, tho I do hope she and Obama will eat each other up absolutely before there is a clear nominee.

One advantage to McCain is he will do much better in the center. I know, I know, at what price? That’s what I say, we gotta watch him, I am not saying stick our heads in the sand. But we have a much bigger base than the Dems and that means the dems almost always do better with centrists than we do, at least in the close elections.

If it’s Hillary, the base will galvanize behind McCain. And Demo spinmasters are saying that the base is fired for either candidate, but I’m not so sure. Hil has ticked off the Blacks with her tactics and Bill demonstrated what complete and utter hypocritical crap his being “the first Black President” is. The Blacks are starting to catch on what a plantation the Democratic Party is, altho it’s happening a lot slower than we’d like.

I think he’ll pull it off. And even against Obama. Obama is an immature Senator. McCain, in the end, will have him for beakfast.
