Obama's Illusion of Reducing Poverty

Tonight I was watching Obama speak on a CNN forum for "compassion and faith." One of the questions asked by the audience was if Mr. Obama would make a pledge to set a goal of cutting the poverty rate in half within 10 years, and if so, what steps would he take to do so.

Barack's answer discussed all of the things that the government will do to meet this goal when he is president: such as solving the mortgage crisis, raising minimum wage, increasing the tax rates for the upper brackets (redistribution of income), and creating quality universal healthcare (oxymoron). Obama eventually gave his pledge, but he did so with much hesitation and precaution, giving a long caveat about such goals. One has to wonder: why did Obama hesitate to give his pledge? Doesn't he have faith in the government's ability to create change??? Where is the hope?

Here is my follow up question to Barack-- "Mr. Obama, since the government did not create the problem of poverty in America why do you believe that the government can fix this problem? None of your proposed solutions require changes on behalf of the individual; if the solution to poverty is purely the responsibility of the government, then why won't you give your whole-hearted pledge to cut it in half within 10 years?

The fact of the matter is, Barack will not give a whole hearted pledge because he knows that his "big government solution" will never reduce the poverty levels, and he knows that the true solution, which lies with the individual, is unpopular with his constituents and will take decades to have an impact.

Obama knows that the government has spent over $9 Trillion since the "war on poverty" began in the 1960's and he knows that the poverty rates have not declined as a result. The war on poverty has been a miserable failure and is clear proof of the government's inability to reduce poverty.

Obama knows that the true solution to poverty lies with the individual, more specifically with the family. Obama knows from the 2007 census that over 35 percent of single-mother homes are poor in comparison to five percent of homes headed by married couples; that 4 out of every 10 children in America are born out of wedlock, and that those children will not only begin life at an exponentially greater rate of poverty, but will also be less likely to recieve a higher education and will be more likely to have a criminal record. Obama is surely aware of the fact that, as Dr. Walter E. Williams has demonstrated, if today's family structure were what it was in 1960's, the overall poverty rate in the black community would be in or near single digits. Obama also knows that government's attempt to "help" has contributed to the breakdown of the family, as well as the skyrocketing of the out of wedlock rates.

So Obama, instead of playing the victimhood card FIRST, which requires the government to come in as the knight in shining armour, tell America that the most basic solution to the poverty rate rests with the people, and that government cannot promise any reduction because it is not in the government's control! Let America know that plans to reduce poverty through big government programs has failed miserably in the past and that it only works to ease people's suffering, like putting a band-aid on a pussing wound.

If you did that you would truly be an agent of change, but it seems like you'd rather have more of the same... That same old 1960's rhetoric that entrusts all of the power to the government, promises the everything to the people, and delivers nothing. Until your first solution begins with the individual, change will just be rhetoric to you Mr. Obama.

Obama won’t be able to do anything to help Americans fight poverty because we’ll be broke because of his Global Welfare Program.

This link discusses Obama’s Global Poverty Act:
