No you don't. All you need is a parent with US citizenship. You do that and you are a citizen by birth.

UNLESS that parent is married to a foreign national, and you are born in a foreign country.

If your baby daddy is an American soldier and he left the country you might well need a certification of the fact.

There have been laws passed that facilitate such children being certified faster than is usually the case.

BTW, this really isn't a new question at all. Enabling legislation should also not be used as creating limitations.

That's where the question on John McCin came up ~ a misreading of enabling legislation. You must also avoid hubris. The Founders no doubt dealt with this issue and left the question to be answered by the common law.

Again, back to an ancestor who was a Swiss citizen over 200 years ago, up until quite recent times his canton still held out hope that his descendants detained abroad might wish to come back home and accept the benefits of his patrimony. The Founders knew about Swiss citizenship standards. They didn't adopt them. They didn't reject them.

Colón is not a U.S. military base.

Colón isn't even part of the Canal Zone. It is now and has been Panamanian turf as long as Panama itself existed.
