Did you watch the 2nd Presidential debate?
Foreign policy is critical. And one the most critical linchpins of foreign policy is the United States relationship with Israel.
That's why it was downright scary to hear Barack Obama's response to a simple question. That question, paraphrased, was "Would you defend Israel without a UN mandate?"
John McCain's answer was clear and unequivocal. Of course he would. Israel is our strongest friend.
Obama's answer? A "nuanced" string of suppositions and what if's. A meandering evasion. A non-committal response. A respect for the United Nations, but not for Israel.
My friends (*drink*), if there ever is a President Obama every nation that hates Israel...and there are many of them...will be standing in line to do their worst secure in the knowledge that President Barack Hussein Obama will not unilaterally commit the might and muscle of the United States of America to help.
Israel would be a smoking crater before 0bama went in. But any conflict in Africa he is down for that.
Tagline says it all.
Israel is a foreign country; we should not put American troops at risk for foreign countries.
Yes but so would most of the American Jewish citizenry. Just look at the polls taken every election.
ping
Ron Paul? Pat Buchanan? Is that you?
Just an American, worrying about the safety of American service personnel.
Let them form a “Jewish Legion” if they feel that way, then.
You got to be kidding.....
About what? You mean Israel is not a foreign country?
ahhh....but obama doesn’t know the Lord God of Israel.
It will be obama be thrown to the wolves..or worse.
if America cannot defend her friends in need, who will stand beside America in her time of need? The security of this nation depends on the US living up to her agreements and alliances to stand beside her friends in at time of need.
Countries have interests, not friends.
What’s more, I would imagine many of our service personnel volunteered and are willing to put themselves at risk for America, but not for a foreign land.
Yes, US allies (and enemies) should be secure in the knowlege that the US will put no American troops at risk. /sarc/
I think it goes a little deeper than that with Israel.
They're strategically import but it's much more. They've been solid friends and we've been solid friends to them. It's like defending England. Sure there's things we don't agree with, but you know it's right.
BTW: What ‘agreement’ are you referring to? NATO is an agreement to defend another country. As far as I know, we do not have such a treaty with Israel.
He’ll throw Americans to the wolves! And under the bus.
Look, if it’s in our interest it’s fine. But putting our troops in harm’s way for a foreign country is wrong.
