The average American woman is 53 lbs. heavier than the typical fashion show "runway" model, according to a new study. This video report shows graphics comparing the size of the average runway model (5'9", 110 lbs), to the average American woman (5'4", 163 lbs). I was surprised the average American woman is 5'4" tall.
I know this is a little off-topic for what we usually post here at Freedom's Lighthouse, but I could not resist posting this report. If you have ever thought those models don't look like virtually anyone you see in real life, now you know why -- they don't!

But did the study adjust for age? I bet most runway models are under 30 or even under 25.
Hillary’s left cankle is bigger than the average fashion model.
The models are so thin often their ribcages stick out or their chest bones portrude, their breasts just about disappear they are so tiny, their arms and legs look like a concentration camp survivor’s.
The normal sized women - the average I believe is around dress size 14 - would be considered fat by the fashion model industry.
I say screw ‘em. :)

The ideal weight, based on MEDICAL information, is the simple formula.
Woman’s weight (lbs) = [(Height in inches) X 5] - 200

I confess, I watch that show too.
Last year’s winner was a “plus size” model. She actually had a figure.

Exactly. Men lose their hair, get paunches, love handles, etc. but few ever concentrate on that in the media. The attention is always on the women.
In order to be in playboy, your BMI needs to be about 18.8
Waif thin runway models are a different category than, say Sports Illustrated swimsuit models who have a little more meat on their bones. These days most men seem to find a curvy J-Lo type body more appealing.
Illegal immigration might be pulling the average down, since the typical Mexican-born peasant woman seems to come in around 4'8". ;)
Many of those girls aren't even that pretty. They have certain facial features that are photogenic without drawing too much attention away from the clothes they're wearing but when you see them off the runway, these girls are really plain jane looking.
I have been to El Paso, Mexican women average about 5-5 to 5-6 in height.
I’d hit it.
All the Mexicans I have ever met are exactly three inches tall.
