“The captain of a US container ship taken hostage by Somali pirates has been released, the US Navy has said.
According to initial reports, three pirates were killed in the operation to free Captain Richard Phillips. Another is in custody.
Capt Phillips is said to be unhurt and on the USS Bainbridge, a warship sent to track the pirates holding him.
He was taken hostage last Wednesday after pirates briefly hijacked his ship, the Maersk Alabama.
Media reports say Capt Phillips’ family was informed of his release several hours ago.
Somali elders had been trying to resolve the standoff but most recent reports suggested the talks had stalled.”

Well, if the take away is: “Americans kill pirates.” then that is a success in my book.
If the Pavlovian response in Somalia is: “Sieze Saudi ships because they pay ransom. Avoid U.S. ships because you’ll end up dead.” then that is a success in my book.
Congratulations to the United States Navy and hey, congratulations to President Obama who I believe, in fairness, played this out well.
We have to be honest about that.

Agreed, if they leave American ships alone going forward I see no reason to spend additional blood and treasure protecting the international “community”, the same ones that fund pirates with ransoms. A happy ending for all.

Then, most importantly - Destroy the entire “port” city from whence the sonsuvbitches launched their attacks....
From my perspective, we couldn’t possible kill enough of the bastards - without regard for age, sex or level of “innocence”..
THAT is the response these African Islamists will understand.
We have to be honest about that.
Obama did the right thing to free the captain by force. However IMHO we should take this one step farther by also bombing/attacking/destroying their staging facilites in Somalia as well.

Kudos to the U.S. Navy on an excellent job. I for one have been praying for Captain Phillip's rescue. I'm so glad I came home from Church this Easter Sunday to learn he is free and safe.
OTOH, BOOOOOO!!! To the White House that held our Navy back for 4 days while these two-bit 'pirates' made America look bad and completely BLEW the opportunity to rescue Captain Phillips the other day when he jumped out of the lifeboat.
Surely the Navy had a 'stand down' order from our limp-wristed "Commander in Chief" otherwise they'd have blown the lifeboat out of the water once Phillips was out of it!
What did the Obama Administration order, and when did they order it? That's what I want to know.
