The US Navy, despite our dithering government, has shown the world how its done, just like the brave crew of the Maersk Alabama showed the world how brave men stand up against criminal cockroaches.
(CNN) -- The American cargo ship captain held hostage by pirates jumped overboard Sunday from the lifeboat where he was being held, and U.S. Navy SEALs shot and killed three of his four captors, according to a senior U.S. official with knowledge of the situation. Our president, after five days of mulling and pondering, finally unleashed the power of the US Navy, then had this to say:
Obama praised the captain for his bravery and courage. The president also said the United States needs help from other countries to deal with the threat of piracy and to hold pirates accountable. No we don't. We don't need "the world's" help, unless it is to cry and apologize when we blow these sub-human predators to hell where we belong. No, all we nee need is to unleash the awesome might of the US military and the rest will fall into place. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D97H45GO1&show_article=1 http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/africa/04/12/somalia.pirates/index.html
Hooray for the Seals!
Lets hope the pirates take note of the fate of their “chums”.
Obama dithers while America’s reputation withers.
Amen, Dallas59.
God bless the Captain of the Bainbridge and thank God for answered prayers.
I'll offer that the Lord is not necessarily on "our" side, but is consistently on His own.
At the same time though, If God be for us, then none can stand against us.
I say all this as much for others who may come across this thread, then to you personally. Try considering it upon principle, rather than taking it all personally? Do that, and you might not be so swift to reply with a dismissive "whatever" in my direction...
Someone in church during the prayers of the people mentioned that the captain had been rescued.
After church on the drive home I told my kids all about it. I may have lacked in the entire details, and obviously filled in my own details - but I think the gist of my story was about right.
The pirates come on board. The 20 crewmen of the big cargo ship go hide.
The captain goes out to talk to the pirates and says something like “My crew are well hidden and can’t be reached. And without them you can’t operate the ship. But, you leave my crew and the ship alone, I’ll go with you and you can still get a ransom for me. We can take one of our life boats.
They get in the lifeboat. It is not a raft, but a fully enclosed boat that can tip upside down, still floats, etc. But fully enclosed.
After numerous days at sea with the priates pointing guns at him and keeping him hostage, he is free.
Now children - what other story does this remind you of? Oh, I’ll give you a hint - the captain was freed on Easter.
My one daughter said “Like Jesus - being resurrected!” My other daughter said “And like Jesus - the captain sacrificed himself!”
Almost the whole thing there! The crew held captive. The captain - their leader, laying down his life so that they might be free. (I imagine the captain thought his odds of living weren’t the best).
The captain being held in the lifeboat (tomb). But being freed several days after being in his own little “hell”.
Perhaps the Seals could be viewed as a little angelic help! (Okay, straying a bit there!)
Anyway - quite the Easter Story. And quite the sacrifice (and bravery, ingenuity, etc.) of the captain. And kudos to our military.
Wow.
ok...they get a pass on this one
/grin
He’s already been given his ACORN membership.
A job in Chicago awaits......
He'd probably rather go back to Somalia - or be shot at dawn on the Bainbridge.
Yep. But in case He's busy with other celestial concerns I'm glad we've got men willing to become SEALS, Force Recons, Green Berets, and whatever the Air Force special forces are called.
I think they are Para-Rescue.
Or 0bowdown.
Now I'm going to read the comments and see how many others said that too. lol
A good telling of the story, and a unforgettable Easter.
It might be real interesting to hear what story will eventually be told concerning this.
Yes, kudos to our military. It appears to me that they conducted themselves highly honorably throughout, did us all proud.
One part of the story I’m unclear on - the crew tossed a couple of the pirates overboard from the cargo ship. Do you know if that was confirmed?
Was of the understanding that the crew at some point overpowered at least one armed pirate, and held him for ransom/trade, which is part of how the ship's captain ended up offering himself to go along with the pirates --- in the "fixed" enclosed lifeboat.
That's much to the how and why the pie-rats where convinced to leave the ship. They thought that taking the captain woud still yield them tons of loot, at that point. They miscalculated.
“They miscalculated.”
Sounds like a Clint Eastwood quote as he squints into the sunlight reflecting off of the blood tinged water with the bodies of the pirates lieing in disarray about the lifeboat.
