That’s 4 times the population of the entire US of A. Something’s not right about this number. If it is accurate, how much of it was purchased by the Mexico cartels?

It would also mean an average of 4-5 guns per adult. That’s a dangerously high number - doesn’t signify a business as usual environment. I am against gun control so don’t get started on me. I am just worried about why so many Americans felt the need to stock up.

That’s rounds of ammunition. Seems like hardly enough for target practice. I think we should require all able bodied men to purchase and fire at least 100 rounds per month. (Self loading exemptions considered.)

No, it was about 1.2 million. That’s about than 1/3 of one percent of the US population.

That number is for ammunition, not gun sales. The combined Indian and Chinese armies was the quantity reference for firearm sales - and those combined armies sure aren't four times the entire U.S. population.

Ammunition has been selling in bulk wherever people can find it. To reach 1.5 Billion rounds, that's just 1.5 Million people each buying a 1000-round case.

You're right, though - this certainly isn't business as usual. I'm more pleased with this than I am worried... this is the closest thing we have in the U.S. to a "no confidence" vote at the federal level.

Remember the movie Tremors?

I wonder how many Americans have a "rec room" like Burt and Heather.

You must have missed the news ~ ever since the Obamistas took over the economy is in the tank, there are ten million unemployed young people, a new and deadly influenza epidemic is forming up AND, the Democrats control Congress.

Those are all good reasons to purchase several guns and to acquire pallet loads of appropriate ammunition.

As previously pointed out, there are some problems with your numbers. Still....

4-5 guns per adult? It sounds like a good idea to me. Well, at least 4-5 guns. A well armed society is a polite society.

“doesn’t signify a business as usual environment”

You have no idea how prophetic your statement actually is. I was laid off the Friday before this past Thanksgiving. Since then, I have spent nearly $4000 of my 401k (that’s money we are using to live on right now) on guns and ammo — mostly guns. That is not business as usual for our family. We don’t believe in spending money for things we don’t “need” when we are not fully employed. If there were not so many hopey changey idiots who voted in November, we would have never considered buying five new guns in my current situation, or at all.

This environment is nothing close to business as usual. On Saturday night, for the first time in her life, CDBear slept with a pistol — her new pistol — on her bedside table. This is a woman who had never touched a loaded weapon until the previous Saturday. Now I have somebody to back me up who is an impressively good shot.

No, you just have no idea how significantly this is NOT a business as usual environment.

It is not unusual for true collectors to have 50 to 200 firearms or even more in a collection. Many of the military firearm collectors/shooters may go through up to 500 rounds or even more in one trip to the range...

Competitive shooters may use twice that amount of ammo a week. They too will have dozens of firearms.

The actual number of new guns, as distinct from ammo, was 1.2 million. To put it into perspective, about 40% of US households have guns, so this is a minor increase. And the amount of ammo purchased, as others have noted, is about one or two small boxes per gun-owning household. It’s just that when EVERYBODY decides to buy one or two extra boxes on the same month, the supply can’t keep up.

"It would also mean an average of 4-5 guns per adult. That’s a dangerously high number - doesn’t signify a business as usual environment."

Four to five guns is not at all unusual or unreasonable. One usually has a .22 caliber rifle and handgun for "plinking" (cheap target shooting), a higher caliber handgun for self-defense, a higher caliber rifle for hunting (and other purposes), and a shotgun.

There's no such thing as "a dangerously high number". There are only dangerous owners, for whom even ONE would be too much---which is why felons lose their gun rights.

"I am against gun control so don’t get started on me. I am just worried about why so many Americans felt the need to stock up."

Because they don't trust Obama and the Democrat majority, and they are expressing that opinion in one of the legal ways of doing so.

Joe Biden wrote the Clinton assault weapons ban. Obama sponsored a law to impose a 500% tax on ammunition. Obama also sponsored a law banning carry permits on the federal level. Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State, was supposedly “co-president” when her husband signed the assault weapon ban. Eric Holder, the Attorney General, was the man in charge of enforcing that ban at the Justice Department.

Then there are the “friends” of the current president. When the leader of the nation proudly associates himself with the likes of Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and William Ayers, we are in deep trouble.

A dangerously high number, you ask? You have no clue what you are talking about. You also ask why are Americans “stocking up”? The answer is BECAUSE WE CAN!!!!

Why are you here? Go buy a gun.
