It’s only partially wrong. The barcode is established by country of origin, so while you may find a UK barcode starting with 50, it may have been made in China. Either way, I would suspect that many US products will be 00.

I just purchased a high-dollar appliance for my home, and the barcode started with 691 and said “Made In China” on the side. Sadly, I believe one would be hard-pressed finding any electronics “Made in USA.”

My sister is remodeling her kitchen and told me that pretty much Bosch was the only one for appliances still in USA. I haven’t checked it out but will when we start building our new house . . . whenever that might be.
