The AMA Will Oppose Obama’s Health Care Socialism Plans

On the one hand I'm glad to see the American Medical Association opposing the socialism plans of Obama when it comes to health care, but on the other hand they got what they asked for as Robert Pear notes in his new article today about the opposition from the AMA, a majority of them gave to Democrats last year:

As the health care debate heats up, the American Medical Association is letting Congress know that it will oppose creation of a government-sponsored insurance plan, which President Obama and many other Democrats see as an essential element of legislation to remake the health care system.

The opposition, which comes as Mr. Obama prepares to address the powerful doctors’ group on Monday in Chicago, could be a major hurdle for advocates of a public insurance plan. The A.M.A., with about 250,000 members, is America’s largest physician organization.

~~~
Since the 2000 election cycle, its political action committee has contributed $9.8 million to Congressional candidates, according to data from the Federal Election Commission and the Center for Responsive Politics. Republicans got more than Democrats in the four election cycles before 2008, when 56 percent went to Democrats.
They can smell the stink from this mess Obama is getting us into, or wants to get us into anyway. Obama wants a "public health insurance option" which would supposedly compete with private insurance. But everyone knows they will undercut the prices which means most everyone will leave private insurance...on top of that if you do chose to get your own insurance stand by for more taxes. After all that we will have one plan, a government run plan.
Doctors know full well the mess that is Medicare and they don't want something worse then that. Ed Morrissey:
It’s starting to sound like 1937 all over again.
One plan to rule them all,
one plan to find them.
One plan to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.
75% of doctors voted for Obama. NOW THEY ARE UPSET, after he did just exactly what he said he was going to do. Are MD’s intelligent enough to be trusted with our health?
Gee... Don’t those doctors want to be on the same pay scale as the doctors in the UK under the NHS who make between $32K - $160K per year?
NOW they are raising doubts?
It is one thing, for some number of millions of people in this country to have no formal health insurance coverage, whether because of matters of philosophy, or misplaced thrift, or economic realities that come down to either/or on how to spend allocated funds, and for a single-payer to be imposed on EVERYBODY, regardless of whether they are now insured against catastrophic medical bills or not.
Those of you who are covered by a perfectly satisfactory form of third-party medical expense payment plan, will have that plan summarily taken away from you, and EVERYBODY is thrown into the same pool. And since this is divided up “fairly”, that means that the available care will be rationed out on the advice and consent of a governing board, not the physican-patient consultation.
The average lifetime of the persons under this medical regime will decline, as fewer and fewer of the life-extending medical advances would be permitted.
And that may very well be the objective, to get these oldsters off the pension rolls. Time to take up the practice of home self-doctoring, using homeopathic medicines and practice of self-healing techniques. A huge underground of this information already exists. It need only be explored and applied. Herbalists of the world, unite!
Old age ain’t for sissies.
Some doctors get it, most are kool-aid drinkers.
The huge majority of others in health care are all about the kool-aid. Pity them.
I would think Doctors would jump at the chance to take a 50% pay cut to ensure that every illegal alien has health insurance.
They are not opposed to socialism. They are gleeful giddy little girls when it comes to forcing everyone who “can afford” health insurance to buy it.
They know that if they do that they will make a lot more money.
Mandatory health insurance will be worse than the public option. It is not conservative or free market to force people to buy products, it will be identically intrusive but worse in that we will be forced to pay private corporations instead of the government (something we do anyway)
PLEASE, ENOUGH WITH ALL THIS COMPLETELY IGNORING THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATES.
As if without the public “option” everything is just fine.
The individual mandate is WORSE than the public option.
It will even cost more than the public option because the government will have no qualms placing incredible requirements for the insurance companies to cover. The costs will be absolutely incredibly high. This is not conservativism, this is fascism. And if you are one of those sick or old people who would love to not be “discriminated” against by the insurance companies for actually having enormous health risks, shame on you.
Eventually this country is going to get to a point where young people will not be able to shoulder their slavery any longer, and it will lead to a collapse.
I know that the only thing on old people’s minds is making that collapse happen when I get old and after they die.
Furthermore, another group of people who love socialism:
Old people, sick people, people with prior illness, and many older people on this forum.
Its our responsibility to take responsibility for getting health insurance! Even if we didn’t want it!
Ya, that’s just regular old conservative stuff right there isn’t it. Forcing young people to buy health insurance for the sole reason that they do not need it and thus will not raise costs while they are forced to pay huge amounts of money because “we can’t let those evil insurance companies discriminate against old/sick people!”.
It isn’t health insurance any more. It is single payer with an extra layer.
I know a lot of people are against the individual mandate, but mostly it is ignored when it is discussed, as if without the public option everything is just fine. Nope, it is worse than the public option even though the public option will be pretty bad.
And you know what? This is all building up to the final “compromise” being that there is no public option, but we conservatives “demand” that young people are forced to just about directly pay for old people’s quest to increase the number of breathing parasites in America.
