Mark Sanford Is A Disgrace

What is it about politicians these days?

Is there some sort of magic elixir in the air that allows these people—regardless of political affiliation--the license to insult the intelligence of their citizens? Or is this some sort of natural “human flaw” that we—the idiots of the proletariat—are supposed to accept as some sort of acceptable characteristic of the people that are supposed to “represent us?”

Give me a freaking break.

Big deal, a man has an affair. Read about Ben Franklin who probably slept with 100 different women in his life....

Sure, he lost it. But I have seen many people do this. There's no fool like an old fool. Plus I think it is harder for some people to stay faithful -- just the way they relate to relationships and the opposite sex. Plus famous people and rich people are temped a lot by people they encounter.

You couple predisposiion with weakness and opportunity and some people will cheat on their spouses. That's between him and his wife and family.

But abandoning his responsibilities, as he did, makes him unfit to serve as governonr in my view.

What's so disgraceful about hiking on the Appalachia trail?

Oh, that's right. That was a lie.

After Clinton, this seems terribly mild by comparison.

Reposting from another thread:

>> For ME — the MORE Conservative, the better — rock on Sanford.

But looking at this SHORT list:

Republican politicians that have had extra-marital affairs:
- Newt Gingrich
- John McCain (first wife)
- Rudy Giuliani
- David Vitter
- Larry Craig
- Henry Hyde
- etc.

Democrat politician that have had extra-marital affairs:
- Kennedy (take your pick)
- Bill Clinton
- James McGreevey
- Jon Corzine
- Eliot Spitzer
- John Edwards
- etc. <<

Maybe the Ancient Chinese were on to something when they made their rulers eunuchs. I would bet that any politician willing to loose their manhood to serve the public good would have enough “cajones” to actually make the right decisions.

I never heard Sanford proclaim himslef as a holy man, so I don’t feel he’s betrayed me. He’s certainly acted as though his political career is’t that important to him.

He should have said he had set up a homosexual sex ring in his basement, and then he would have gotten a pass from the press, and demonrat party....ask Barney Frank.

Exactly, Abandoning his duties so he could chase some foreign woman in south America is far worse than getting off with an American citizen intern in your own office. What if little miss Argentina was a spy looking to get into his pants and into his files. What if she could get him into a position of blackmail. It is almost tantamount to treason. Besides Republicans Conservatives are supposed to an example of how NOT to have compromising affairs and such. I think the voters of South Carolina should kick him out on his rear end.

I have no sympathy for his fake crying BS during his press conference.

Mark Sanford is a disgrace.

Deeply tragic that Sanford exhibited the primary fault of humanity--he is fallen and 'prone to wander.' For those who believe he is deserving of capital punishment, feel free to pick up those stones and hurl them (assuming you are without sin, yourself.)

Oh good grief....politicians are human beings, no different AT ALL than the humans who elect them.

A man having a mistress...especially a powerful man...is also unremarkable.

What is remarkable and intolerable is we have US pols who steal our liberty and livelihoods daily.... we have elected a man who is working to DEFEAT the United States of America, and we are doing nothing about it!

The more important distinction is that a couple of the Republicans are baby-killers, whereas all the Democrats are baby-killers.

I bet none of those women Ben Franklin ever slept with could have blackmailed him either, it was a different time and a different place you know. In some ways marriage back them was more about producing children and inheritance. The common thing was for rich and successful men to have mistresses on the side. If people want to go back to some of the social contract values of the 1700’s then they better figure out that the founding fathers were no ozzie and harriet.

You know waht is funny about this I was thinking maybe this woman was a plant I dont know seems like the o administration has a way pf leveling the playing field. sanford was very verbal against the stimulus and obama. maybe they felt he was week and they decided to take him down using seduction. Obama won his senate seat after he leveled the playing field and one of his opponets had his divorce records unsealed and that was the end of him

"I have no sympathy for his fake crying BS during his press conference."

Oh, I believe they were sincere tears........but it was tears because he got caught, and now his future is ruined, and maybe his marriage also, and have only weekly visitation rights with his 4 sons.

The views coming from this dialogue are both shocking yet unsurprsing.

Here is a man that betrayed everything that conservatism ostensibly stands for, yet it is apparently okay with most.

WTF?

Go ahead, cast your stones on those comments. The more, the merrier, apparently.

I wouldn’t be angry had he just had the cajones to look into the camera and say “I have mistress, it is none of your business as it won’t affect my job as Governor. Deal with it.” turned from the podium and walked proudly out of the press conference.

Instead he abandons his job for several days so he can run to a foreign country and his mistress without anyone knowing where the hell he was. Basically abandoning his job for a women of another country.

If you were at work and you just walked out at noon someday and returned several days later and told everyone at the office that you had to fly to Mexico to see you mistress. How long would you be employed after that?
