Ashton Kutcher Comes Out of the Closet on “Real Time”
NewsReal Blog ^ | August 17, 2009 | David Swindle

Posted on 08/18/2009 5:02:55 PM PDT by HorowitzianConservative

I dread when leftist talk show host Bill Maher has celebrities, musicians and actors on his Real Time panels. They’re always such dead weight, totally unable to say anything intelligent or have any grasp of the issues. And politically they almost always argue from their position in Chomskyland. It’s just pure, endlessly pathetic radical chic.

That’s what I was expecting when I saw that Ashton Kutcher, star of “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and the celebrity prank show “Punk’d,” would be joining General Anthony Zinni and conservative columnist Ross Douthat for Maher’s chatfest. And I was stunned when those low expectations weren’t met. Instead Kutcher put forth sensible views and engaging, informed opinions on the issue of health care which brought some consensus to the table.

Discussing the issue of a greater need for an emphasis on promoting wellness instead of just treating sickness, Kutcher expressed a view on socialized medicine that hasn’t been discussed as much as it should:

“Frankly, I don’t want to pay for the guy who’s getting a triple-bypass because he’s eating fast food all day and deep-fried snickers bars. I don’t want to pay for him! Whether he’s wealthy or he’s not!”

He’s right. Should the taxpayer have to pay for other people’s unhealthiness? Should the taxpayer pay for the guy who smokes four packs of cigarettes a day and then gets emphysema?

“I take as my individual Christian responsibility to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, clothe the naked and care for the sick - and so do a lot of other Americans. It’s called charity.”

we need to do more than charity. We need to push people so that they can sustain themselves so that they won’t have to depend on anyone, private charity or govt.

Well, I have Leukemia. I have never smoked, drink very little and never did drugs. The payoff for clean living.

I have been paying for Health Insurance Coverage continuously since I was 18 years old, and I'm now 56. Do I get some sort of a rebate from Obama if his pet Bill passes?

If anyone thinks this whole Socialized USSR thing isn't the biggest sack of sh!t to come down the pike, they are beyond redemption.

My hatred of Liberalism, which is nothing more than State Sponsored Economic and Social Slavery, is compounded each and every day.

My only hope is to get back some of the $200,000 I have paid into SS and Medicare over my lifetime, but my current personal circumstances are starting to make that look unlikely. Maybe Ashton can float me a loan while I can still enjoy the money.

Just venting. Carry on...

“And I do not want to pay for cancer treatment for smokers. “

Would you pay for victims of lung cancer who never smoked?

What if someone decided not to pay for your care after it’s found that being cheap causes cancer? Huh?

Did Ashton just know figure out he makes over 250K and will be taxed like never before?

Agreed, but that push would also be considered charity. And, there will never be a time when all people are self sustaining, Our Lord said, "the poor you have always with you...".

I'm quite a bit away from that age but I'm no spring chicken. I don't expect the money to be there if and when I reach that age. I would take 50 cents on the dollar, maybe even less, of what I have already paid into it if they would let me opt out now.

Many people start out fiscally conservative and then naturally morph into social conservatives too.

The title is misleading....I thought Ashton had come out of the....closet.

So...he's really not in a closet, and she's really not a beard?

Sounds like a socialist/Marxist who would like to control everyone’s life. So exactly how would he deal with destructive personal behavior like eating too many Bibg Macs or smoking too many cigars or being overweight?

The important comment was Zinni’s. It is little known outside the military, but ever since Dwight Eisenhower, there has been a strong core of military officers that refuse party affiliation.

Only on active duty. Both parties are full of former military officers, including flag officers. Don't you recall Kerry trotting out a lineup of former flag officers at the Dem convention in 2004?

The real rub is in what arbitrary way do you wish to judge one person piously virtuous but another morbidly decadent?!

This conversation should not be happening!

You are absolutely correct. This line of thinking can only lead to more governmental oversight into people's lives.

“And I do not want to pay for cancer treatment for smokers.”

How about non-smokers, since they get just as many cancers as smokers, and in some cases, (e.g. breast cancer) more.

That is the worst thing about Nationalized Health Care.

Now things that shouldn’t be any of our business, suddenly will become our business. Society will get much more nastier.

My thoughts exactly. I have a relative who says he is socially liberal and fiscally conservative. all he means is wants all the social welfare programs but he doesn't want HIS money to pay for them. AK is cute though!

“Now things that shouldn’t be any of our business, suddenly will become our business. Society will get much more nastier.”

Not sure it can get much nastier, but it will certainly be more apparent. Most people just love to meddle in other people’s affairs. It provides them a sense of “superiority” and they do not know it just makes them bullies and busybodies. It makes them feel “needed” and do not understand nobody wants or needs them, and the whole world would be better off without them. Think about that the next time you’re dealing with a town clerk, registry office person, or any other government functionary.

Hank
