If they can do it to Mr. Bary, they can do it to you
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The fate of a 17-year-old girl who ran away from her Ohio home because she says she feared punishment for converting from Islam to Christianity could be decided in an Orlando courtroom Friday. My first thought was, this one's easy. The teenager disappeared last month and police used phone and computer records to track her to the Rev. Blake Lorenz, pastor of Orlando, Fla.-based Global Revolution Church, who she had met through an online Facebook prayer group.
Send her back to her family and prosecute Reverend Blake Lorenz for luring a minor child.
Yes, I know about the Muslim husband who cut his wife's head off in New York, as well as the Muslim father in Georgia who strangled his daughter to death because of his twisted, 7th century sense of honor. We also have the Texas "honor" killings.Still in question is whether this young lady, Rifqa Bary, is in that kind of danger. He parents found out awhile back, and they were mad as hell, I'm sure. But she's still alive, which says something in her father's defense.
Too many things don't smell right. 17 year old girls are famous for being drama queens, even more so than Muslims are for decapitations. I saw the
YouTube video and all I kept thinking was, she's saying exactly what those church people want to hear. And this whole episode is quite an advertisement and money boost for the pastor who used the internet to lure her to Florida. Striking a blow against Islam is just icing on the cake. Could this be merely a cultural and generational clash gone viral? I'd like to know more about what went on back in Ohio. How are her grades? Are boyfriends or some other teen-parent conflict behind this? Any parent can tell you how a simple matter can spin out of control when angry parents and emotional teens are involved. Religious conviction in the mix just makes the situation hotter. Her Christian faith could be sincere and her parents could be really mad, but that doesn't prove her dad will kill her.Hillary Clinton and Marian Wright Edelman Would be Proud
The family unit is sacrosanct, and unless lawbreaking is going on, no judge or pastor or anyone else has any business poking their nose in. This is a fundamental freedom that conservative Christians usually stand up for.
I guess if you agreed with preemptive war, it's not much of a stretch to support preemptive justice. It's all well and good until Uncle Sam decides to bust up your Jesus Camp and liberate your brain-washed kids from your home and your authority.
To those who are convinced this is a black and white case, ask yourself this question: If this were a 17-year old girl from a fundamentalist Christian family running into the arms of an imam, would you still be sticking up for the girl and the mosque?
Once again, you can't use the honor killing excuse. If such arguments were valid, the Branch Davidian episode could be used to outlaw Christians having custody of their children. It remains to be seen if this girl's life is really in danger. I trust the good judge in Florida will sort that out in due time,One thing's for certain: Reverend Blake Lorenz must be prosecuted under Florida law for Luring a Minor.

Your are an idiot. Glad to know that YOU think the state owns children
If this were a 14>17 year old going for an ABORTION the Government would do what????
Her parents would have what rights to stop her????
You are a great American.
Of course, but there is something more sacrosanct, and that is life itself.
IOW, if the family is endangering a child's life, the unit is no longer too sacrosanct to be broken.
That is the issue here IMO. If the court believes that the girl's life or safety is in danger, it has the right to remove her from the home.
To those who are convinced this is a black and white case, ask yourself this question: If this were a 17-year old girl from a fundamentalist Christian family running into the arms of an imam, would you still be sticking up for the girl and the mosque?
No but then I have not heard any recent cases of fundamentlist Christians murdering their own children or having themgang raped by a bunch of men because they dishonored some man in the family by looking at another man or some other silly violation.
Agreed.
The relevance here of the Branch Davidians escapes me. Using an Army tank as a battering ram and a blazing fire seemed to me an application of “over-kill,” no pun intended. The very lives of children in that compound were not threatened until the feds chose to apply lethal force, as a substitute for arresting the leader as he walked the streets of Waco, which, so far a is known, was not attempted.
If she is emancipated, she can get protection, go into hiding, live with others who are willing to shelter her, join the military, file for a name change ... etc.
IN short other than not being able to purchase a fire arm for self defense, she will be in just about all legal aspects, an adult. She will be able to manage her affairs and be able to live her life as she sees fit. Yes, she may have the family after her but the ways and means to handle that are best handled by her.
But, it all starts with an emancipation decree.
Well, I watched the video and I don't know whether to believe her or not.
If her family doesn't kill her, someone else in a Muslim neighborhood just might. World-wide, some THOUSANDS of young women were murdered last year, and not all of them were killed by family members.
Besides, even if I were at all hesitant to believe her, why should I believe her father? Or his Imam? Or any Muslim speaking of the ROP? The Quran tells them to lie to us.
Speaking of honor - American honor is at stake here. If we allow a defenseless young woman to be killed on the altar of leftist political correctness, we have failed as a nation.
Why is this even at question? Wherever that kid should go, her parents' home isn't an option.
First they came for the Branch Davidians, but I wasn’t a branch davidian. Then they came for the muzzie wuzzies, but I wasn’t a muzzie wuzzie...
A few of you have mentioned logic here, which is interesting because I see very little of it in your responses. Even if child abuse is proven, it does not follow that she will be killed. Her father has been charged with nothing so far. (go Google “Logic non-sequitur)
Under the constitution (remember that document?) some other muslim cutting off somebody’s head doesn’t make her father guilty. White men used to lynch black men. Does that make me a racist threat?
This is a plea for conservatives to think through an issue before knee-jerking. This is a complex case. In the wild-eyed stampede to attack Islam you could end up trampling the constitution.
Curiously, I noticed no one addressed this preacher who lured her from her home.
Finally, we are about 2 steps away from home-schoolers being declared religious nuts, forcing a showdown between parents in their home and the state that wants to herd everyone into public institutions.
Get a clue!
You are so far in the field wondering around it is pathetic.
In case you haven’t heard The Constitution is NOT a suicide pact
You’re a nut. The preacher gave her a haven and safety from the murderous cult she was victim to. You’re attempt to compare actual religious beliefs to a murderous cult is the most pathetic part of it.
You’ve nailed it.
The progressive statists will use this same thinking to go after people they deem religious nuts, you and me. Google Marian Wright Edelman.
Can a father make his daughter go to church or forbid her from using birth control pills?
I am not defending Islam, I’m simply asking you to look at the bigger picture.
This young lady’s life may well be in danger, but no one has even established probable cause yet.
The best comment so far is that she be emancipated.
Correct! If this girl was seeking a court's permission for an "underage" abortion she'd get it in a heartbeat. If I was the girl I'd bolt now and not leave my very life in the hands of some black-robed Pilot.
Unmitigated codswallop. ...so your logical conclusion is that she must be returned to experience more physical abuse, because it hasn't been fatal ...yet? The father has, according to his daughter and witnesses, physically abused the child in the past. And under our laws, that is enough to remove any child from any parent. Whether or not the father is ever charged for that abuse, or found guilty or innocent, is another matter.
The Judge ordered the child to be under the jurisdiction of the Child Protection Agency while he personally continued to direct an investigation of the case. I sincerely hope the child reaches her majority before the investigation is concluded.
Fortunately, this child is very lucky that the judge in this case does not follow your line of "reasoning." You see, the judge cannot be certain that this particular Muslim parent is not now, or will possibly become, an "honor killer." That is because Muslims (The Religion of Peace) have demonstrated a history of this murderous behavior toward women.
The judge was logical in his pursuit of this child's safety.
Well done. Thanks for the ping.
Maybe the judge intends his investigation to pass the child's 18th birthday.
