“That crumbling victorian makes me sad. If it were in Brooklyn, it would have been rehabbed long ago, and worth over $1MM in even some not so nice neighborhoods.”
I’ve often wondered how great it would be if, en masse, some 100,000 moneyed homebuyers went in, purchased, rehabbed and gentrified those once-great properties and their neighborhoods.
I had a great time..but I didn’t recognize it anymore. My girlfriends and I use to go downtown to ballgames, shop, fireworks, concerts, etc. I couldn’t believe there wasn’t anyone on the streets on a Sat and with an 20% unemployment rate, all the buildings boarded up with broken windows and graffiti, and then all the new road construction, I thought who is this for? It has really changed. I think Detroit is a warning what is to come to the rest of the country. I don’t think people realize, it would like going to Manhattan and it is a ghost town, freaky.
“If any of those poor, impoverished, destitute Michiganders have
a small piece of property with its own dock, free and clear and cheap,
Im interested. Maybe we can work out a trade.”
I humbly suggest you wisely choose the location of said dock.
And if it’s anywhere near Detroit, have a fully-fueled and maintained
seaplane tied up at your dock.
So you’ll have a chance to escape when the Sh-t fully hits the fan
and Michigan (well, maybe not the Upper Peninsula) totally burns down.
Your posts prompts me to do a “repost”:
The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit

I’ve heard that even some Michigan politicians have suggested
bulldozing the blighted/abandoned areas of Detroit.
My understanding is that the population of Detroit has been halved in
the last 60 years (from something like 1.8 million to about 900,000).
I know a fair number of them fled to my Oklahoma in during the
Oil Boom of the 1980s; otherwise we’d never have gotten some betting
approved in the buckle of The Bible Belt.
White Flight
Thanks for the advice.
“For sale: Lovely, majestic Old Detroit Victorian. Needs a bit of TLC.”
POS needs to be blown up. Fuel-air explosives.
Maybe take out a couple of witches, too. ;)
Someone should post a picture of vintage Detroit when....., well, I’ll say it, when the white nuclear family dominated the city.
The same crap has destroyed the once beautiful city of St. Louis.
And they STILL live way better off than half the people on this planet.
If you’re making more than $2/day, you’re not poor.
Who cares! 0bama won the n00bel!
True dat.... I drive through Detroit about once a week, and it looks more and more like a war zone down there. Of course, the real tragedy is, even though I live about 25 miles outside the city, the blight spreads insidiously. One property in my association sold a couple of months ago at an auction for about $44K - SEVs in our area were at least $55K..... Thanks, Jen.
Thanks grellis.
Didn't mean to ping you all to that last one twice, sorry
Detroit is a major trucking port. Those highways are for the semis going to and from Canada or going up to Port Huron and Sault Ste. Marie.

Nice thought. To do what you suggest would mean setting up a defensive perimeter with checkpoints, concertina barbed wire, claymore and land mines, machine gun towers, and a battalion of the 1st Marine Division.

Oh, yeah! I know. Blackwater, anyone?
What is that level anyway?
$22,050 for a family of four.
Cross Village?
And you had Granholm on Fox News yesterday asking for more stimulus handouts. She’s been doing such a great job.
