These videos are awesome. The first is a classic clip from Johnny Carson. The second is from cowboy Baxter Black, talking about the country he loves.

George Gobel always cracks me up.

There's no school like the Old School.

The George Gobel (Johnny Carson) clip made me laugh until tears filled my eyes.

Mr. Black made my eyes do the same thing for a different reason.

Thanks, great post.

I ran into Baxter this past January at the annual National Cattlemen’s Convention in San Antonio. He is a pretty friendly guy and easy to visit with.

Having known him for years, I can say with some authority that Baxter’s a great guy, and certainly the funniest veterinarian in America!

Watch the whole Carson bit on Utube. It’s over 8 minutes long and hilarious.

Love the cigarette ashes into his drink.

I like the fact that they are even smoking on TV.

Baxter Black is one of the few reasons to listen to NPR. Best commentator they ever had.

God, I miss George Gobel, he was funny and he never had to use swear words to get a laugh.

The comedians today who use foul language are not smart to get a laugh without be vulgar.

The comedians today who use foul language are not smart [enough] to get a laugh without be[ing] vulgar.

Yes Sir, in full agreement! I think of all of those graduates from Burlesque and the Borscht Belt and how they never (in their public performances) used foul language and still had people rolling in the aisles! Are there their equals today or have we dumbed down the populace to expect those words in order to be 'genuine'?

The next question is; Was Johnny Carson so good because he had excellent guests to play to his skills, OR Was he excellent because he had such a universe of excellent guests to choose who would play best to his undoubted skills? Leno comes close but only feebly while the rest are all too pale imitations.
