Last night at CPAC, Clyde and I had a terrific interview with conservative Republican Senate candidate Mike Lee from Utah. He is trying to knock off sitting Republican Senator Robert Bennett.
As in Florida with Marco Rubio and Charlie Crist, there is a conservative v. establishment split in the Utah race. The NRSC and Newt Gingrich (who apparently didn't learn from his disastrous endorsement of Dede of Scozzafava in NY-23) are supporting Bennett, the 76 year-old RINO who supports things like TARP and the unconstitutional individual mandate to purchase health insurance. Conservative groups like Club for Growth have come out against Bennett and Dick Armey's organization, Freedom Works, just endorsed Mike Lee as the true conservative in the race.

For those who don’t know, Utah has unique nomination laws. There is a party convention, and delegates cast ballots for preferred candidates. The last-place finisher is elimiated from consideration and ballots keep getting cast until there are only two candidates left, who meet off in a primary. If the first-place finisher wins 60% or more of the ballots, however, he or she automatically becomes the nominee.
We have ample opportunity to unseat Bailout Bob Bennett.
“Bennett, the 76 year-old RINO who supports things like TARP and the unconstitutional individual mandate to purchase health insurance.”
Bennett also supports amnesty for illegal aliens.
I want Bennett out, but frankly still don’t know nearly enough about Lee.
Romney to Fundraise for Bennett
By Bryan Schott
Former Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney is on a fundraising tear right now, pulling in money for Republican candidates across the country, including Senator Bob Bennett.
The Hill reports that Romney will hold a fundraiser for Bennett in Boston on October 26.
I’ve been acquainted with Mike Lee for years. We actually a little work together in a pro-family NGO in the 90’s. He is smart, and the son of Rex Lee, whom I also knew. Rex was brilliant. Former Solicitor General of the U.S. Close friend of Scalia and Ken Starr, and on the short list for the Supreme Court until he got cancer at a young age. I learned Constitutional Law from Rex Lee. — So did Mike Lee. That’s why I’ve donated some money to his campaign.
