Well, I was born in Michigan and my Birth Certificate says Certificate of Live Birth. My wife, on the other hand, was born in Washington and hers say Certified Copy of Birth Certificate at the top and then where the rest of the Document starts it says Certificate of Live Birth.

So if they are different, there are certainly no legal differences that are relevant in this country. I have used mine for identification forever and so has my wife.
