VA Claims to Turn Budget Deficit Into Surplus... Where is the Mainstream Media?

Recently elected governor of Virginia, Republican Bob McDonnell promised fiscal responsibility, a dedication to working on Virginia’s budget, and a focus on securing more jobs for Virginians while he was on the campaign trail in 2009. It appears as though the man will be sticking to his campaign promises if you believe his most recent claim.

The local Washington, DC NBC affiliate noted that McDonnell, only in office since January, has claimed that deep cuts made in March will in fact turn the VA budget from a potential $4billion deficit, to a surplus if the projected $1.7 billion comes in this month.

Where is the Mainstream Media?

It got covered in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and I'm pretty sure at least the political page of the Post covered it. Also heard it on WRVA news.

Gov. McD is doing an outstanding job here. He has taken heat from the usual suspects for some ballsy budget cuts, but, as promised, he’s getting control of the state’s budget.

Basic, common-sense conservatism. It’s not that hard.

Yeah, but the governor must have done it by denying or closing down services to the elderly or the dying or the helpless children. /sarc

Oh yeah, you should hear the library whine. They’re going to have to close two branches early one night a week. Maybe they shouldn’t have piffed away their budget on those gorgeous new wood shelves (which hold half the books the old metal ones did).

Virginia imposed a furlough on all state employees last month. For ONE day...and the savings to the state was in the millions. But..you should have heard some of the employees complain about losing a day's pay.

Those complaining the loudest were the same liberal government employees who elected Obama and still support him. The same who swallowed his words about “Share the Wealth” and thought that meant all their non working, lazy, welfare recipient friends, and daughters with illegitimate babies would get more money. Those people now furloughed for ONE DAY complained about the governor saving the state money and sharing the wealth. ROFLOL....Like all liberals...sharing is OK...as long as it is the rich who share, not any of the people who voted for Obama. It is so ludicrous.

Hooray for Gov. McDonnell. He is a guiding light in a very dark time.

Time to rescind Virginia’s “one term governor” rule.

Important to note that Tim Kaine proposed FOUR furlough days over the next biennium. The General Assembly and Governor McDonnell were able to reduce that back to ONE and still end up with a surplus.
