Palin vs. Obama: It Could Happen and It Could Be a Close Election
The Huffington Post | August 4, 2010 | Robert Guttman, Johns Hopkins University

Posted on 08/05/2010 1:24:21 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

As most of our thoughts are now turned towards this fall and the possibility of a larger than usual loss for the party in power -- the Democrats -- we should take a minute to look ahead to the presidential contest in 2012.

With unemployment likely over the 10% mark by election day this November and hot topics like the war in Afghanistan, the spiraling deficit and immigration to name a few, the Democrats will suffer larger than usual losses but they might not be as dire as analysts and pollsters are predicting. The House and Senate may stay in control of the Democrats because in the final analysis even in an anti-incumbent mood many voters revert back to casting their ballots for someone they know rather than taking a chance with a newcomer.

However, once the midterms are over and new faces emerge on the GOP side who will immediately be cast as potential presidential possibilities in 2012, one person seems to have taken the lead for that position as we head into the 2010 midterms. That person is the ever present former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin.

While many Democrats and pundits and others may laugh and scorn the former 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidates for her views and abruptly leaving her job as governor of Alaska and many of her other behaviors that seem to many as out of the mainstream, she actually seems to be doing quite well in positioning herself for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination. She is very actively promoting, endorsing and giving money to candidates who look like likely winners this November. She is on FOX News as a commentator and the public knows her views and opinions on the key issues of the day.(continued)

There is a flaw in your reasoning there.

The American Public as a whole is weary of the military, and war, in the extreme.

At least mine are honest with no agenda. You can’t say that.

We live in a time with lightening speed communication. Who ever heard of Shirley Sherrod before Breitbart broke that video?

After a couple days we knew all about her.

Who ever heard of Palin until McCain picked her. Almost immediately, people seemed to know a whole lot about her.

Speaking as someone who loves Palin and defends her regularly I think it would be a huge mess if she got elected, what they did to her in Alaska would be nothing compared to what would happen to her in DC. I love her right where she is pissing off the people I hate.

The problem is the bureaucrats running everything. Not the experienced generals. And the war is being run based on PR, not actually exterminating the enemy. Franks has experience and he’s certainly no bureaucrat. Military families would rest well knowing that Franks, an ACTUAL soldier would be directing operations. However retired.

Romney is not eligible to be POTUS.

His roles in RomneyCARE, his imposition of gay marriage,
his team's vicious attacks on Gov. Sarah Palin and her children,
and his and BAIN's putative role in the GroundZeroMosque should make
Romney the pride of the DNC and MSM.

"(The GroundZero Mosque) cleared its final hurdle ….
developers plan to build the $100 million center which will include a mosque.
Since its incipient stages in July 2009, when a Muslim-run real-estate development
company purchased the damaged, vacant building and land where the new center
will be built, the project has sparked controversy and debate.
.... the tattered building that was bought by the Muslim real estate company had
been owned by a subsidiary of Bain Capital, a company Romney founded in 1984.

So it’s OK if his company can profit off the sale of the land ."

“There is plenty of time to get to know the candidates that enter the race.”

Tell that to Duncan Hunter. Most people still do not know who he is and that he ran for the Republican nomination in 08, and I wanted him for our ticket.

I had to look up Mitch and see who he was. I am not jumping up and down excited.

Frankly, none of them excite me.

Oh well, maybe things will change. Lets hope this election in 2012 isn’t the disaster that 2008 was.

I would hope soon after the Nov. election anyone interested in running would step forward. I don't want Brett Farve like commitment. If someone has an interest in the 2012 nomination then get your ass in gear and put 100% into it. The 08’ nomination process was a perfect model how not to pick a candidate.

Other than Hunter, and yes, I know he wasn’t flashy enough. But he was a real conservative.

That is just insane.

Sarah Palin has a great record. Sarah Palin sued the federal government so we could use our own energy resources. Sarah Palin took down a corrupt political establishment in Alaska. Sarah Palin believes in less government and more freedom. Sarah Palin would not let arab countries develop nukes and threaten Israel.

get real !

IMHO — huffington is the talking points distributor to the net for the DNC. They keep running pieces suggesting Palin as the “scariest” for them for a reason—but not to “wake up their base.” They are trying to influence RNC! It’s the old “Please don’t throw me into the brier patch!” game. But what is their end game—that is the question. Possibilities:(1) Hillary is already the next in line, and they’re keeping it on the “down low” until Palin gets the shoe-in, then they will drop the bomb. They think Hillary is a sure win in this situation as long as they hammer EXPERIENCED WOMAN.(2)They think if they talk favorably about Palin enough from enough media sources, that the RNC will become physically ill at the thought of doing what the DNC is prescribing that they (RNC) will throw in a Newt thinking they will “show” the DNC that the RNC can’t be out-smarted!

It’s the back ground talk that will answer the question. Look for rifts lining up in favor of Hillary. If that gets pronounced, Hillary is in in 2012. Start watching who they begin “picking on” in place of Palin. If they start downing someone else, while continuing to talk about how SCARY Palin is, we need to start looking at the person they are scrapping.

Rest assured, they are not afraid of Palin. I’d be willing to put money on the belief that Obama will not run in 2012.

My opinion only— Soros told Hillary at that scurried meeting between Obama and Hillary during the primaries, that he (Soros) had made his decision, and Obama was the guy for thus and so reasons, which we can all readily ID at this point. Soros further said, if you play fair and be a good soldier, I’ll put you, Hillary, in at 2012. Obama’s my hit man, but Hillary, you’re the one who can make America okay with it, and you’ll be the first woman President. At first, Hillary and Bill were steaming mad, but Soros reminded them not to bit the hand that feeds you— what Soros gives, Soros can take away— and so Clintons obeyed and now await the reward.

What does this mean for Palin in 2012 as a ticket? Good question. One that needs to be asked.

I love Sarah Palin. She’s great. I just hope someone is working on our “end-game,” because America is one step away from GONE.

Giime a break ... ethics charges?

Of course if she is running, they will attack her family - but she will come back swinging at Obama, he's got more to lose.

I find it strange that many here see the media as a problem for Palin, yet hate the media. She has and will continue to do more to discredit the media than any one politician ever has, as well as energising the conservative media. Let the war begin! It is overdue.

And any other candidate will reaffirm the media's importance, simply by being the candidate, as well as by pandering to them as they always have.

Who ever wins the nomination will be demonized by the Left/MSM. Regardless of who eventually runs and wins the Republican nomination, they will be portrayed as a right wing extremist and not very smart.

I just do not understand the folks that want a once in a generation candidate (Sarah) to step aside because the left do not like her.

In the end, you folks that say you like her .....but, are only going to end up getting Romney elected or perhaps Huck

Sorry just my opinion. Actually my biggest worry is that the Social Conservative vote is going to be split between Sarah, Huck and Jim and a few others, and then Romney will win the nomination. We know that Huck will not drop out, he has to stay to the very end like he did last time.

Nobody can excite the people like Sarah.
